I may end up having to let a pro do this. But I'm curious how difficult it would be to convert some old VHS-C and also some mini-DVI's to DVD. The only computer I have is an iMac (last years model). Does anyone know if the Mac is capable of doing this or would I have to purchase some other equipment? I don't know anything about video editing. And I really don't care about editing the tapes. I would like to make complete copies. Any suggestions?

I googled "capture vhs to mac" and got a lot of hits.

For the miniDV tapes, use the original minDV camcorder and connect it to your PC using a Firewire/IEE 1394 cable. Use iMovie or whatever editing software came with your Mac to capture. Video size will be 13GB per hour and the resolution will be 720 x 480 (NTSC)

For the VHS-C tapes, you will need an analog to digital converter box. Something like a ADVC110 or ADVC55

Connect your VHS deck to the ADVC55/110 using the standard RCA cables and then connect the ADVC55/110 to your Mac using a Firewire cable. Use iMovie or whatever editing software came with your Mac to capture. Video size will be 13GB per hour and the resolution will be 720 x 480 (NTSC)

Alternatively, if your miniDV camcorder had the "analog pass thru" feature, you could it that instead of the ADVC55/110.
