Hey guys, coming from a sony HDv HDR-hc3 1080i

It's been great used for family ( kids growing up). I noticed recently I when you turn it on occasially it says reinsert disc( mini tape) then it works but has been happening more often.

I bought new about maybe 8 years ago.

Looking forward in case I have to replace it but I'm lost here, I haven't looked into these in years.

I like to playback on my projector so optics is important.

Can you guys point me in the right direction.

I paid 1300 for it so I'm guessing replacing it will be similar?

Thanks bob

I prefer Sony and Panasonic cameras that have the option to shoot AVCHD 2.0, or 1080p60. Canon continues to use what some here consider a slightly inferior format.

Favorites here are the Pansonic V700 and X900. For Sony the favorites here include the CX760 for it's very good stabilization and the GW77 for ruggedness.

Both Sony and Panasonic "upgraded" some models at the consumer show in Las Vegas last week.

Since you bought your camera, video has crept into a number of machines that look like cameras and photography has crept into machines that look like camcorders.

Cameras that have the reputation of great video are the Panasonic FX200, the Panasonic LX7 and the Sony HX20V or HX30V.

For people that like to buy lenses, the Panasonic GH3 should be added to the list.

Good luck shopping!

Bill

Bill gave you an excellent set of cameras to investigate that have been recommended and used by many experienced users in this forum. The one you then selected is not on the list. You have your answer.

If you want to remain within Sony domain, and you prefer traditional camcorder format, and you really want to upgrade, not just move away from tape, this might be your answer: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/818266-REG/Sony_NEXVG20_NEX_VG20_Interchangeable_Lens_HD.html

My wife surprised me a got me a panasonic v500 camcorder, I didn't want to seem ungrateful but I was looking at spending more, with that said I'm really just looking to maintain or better the quality I have enjoyed with my Sony hc3. Will the pani v500 be as good? If so maybe it's worth getting the new 520 model that they are releasing soon or Is the v700/720 worth the extra over the v500/520?

Thanks

Are you asking for camera opinions or marital advice?

Here is a comparison chart: http://shop.panasonic.com/compare/?itemNbr=HC-V700MK&itemNbr=HC-V500K

I have been married to the same women for 44 years. You should be thrilled she gave you a camcorder. The one she gave you will take better video than what you had before. With 1080p and SD cards you should see some PQ improvement and certainly it will be more convenient.

Marriage and cameras are weird. My wife, on a trip through a National Park, wanted "more zoom". For her birthday I gave her a Panasonic FZ150. She said she "loved" it. She waited a few months, studied everything on the market and bought a Panasonic LX7. Now it is my turn to be thrilled that she has what she wants, even though she may never get out the FZ150 again! And, no, I don't get to play with either. They are "her" toys.

Hug your wife and say thank you!
