Sony has announced the Cyber-shot DSC-WX300, DSC-HX300 and DSC-TX30 compact cameras. The HX300 is a 50x superzoom with a 24-1200mm equivalent lens in front of a 20MP CMOS sensor. Meanwhile the WX300 is a compact superzoom that Sony says is the slimmest 20x camera. It has an 18MP CMOS chip behind its 25-500mm equiv. lens. Finally, the tough, waterproof card-style TX30 shares the same sensor and offers a 26-130mm equiv zoom.

From the picture and price it looks like the WX300 is the follow on from the HX9V, HX20V and HX30V. I will enjoy seeing how Sony does against the Panasonic LX7 and FZ200 this year.

Bill

On edit: It appears I am wrong. The WX300 weighs a lot less than an HX20V according to the UK Sony site. There they group the HX20 into "High Performance" and the WX300 into "Portable and Powerful".

Wow, that is a stupid move by Sony since they along with Panasonic have had 1080p60 in their 20x compact superzooms like my Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS20.

It seams like Sony wanted those 2 cameras to be as tiny as possible for that zoom range and at the same time to not be too expensive to manufacture. They probably choose compactness over 60p. Personally I'd rather have the camera be slightly bigger just so I can get 60p. As for the HX300, it's a bit bigger and have a $500 price tag so it might have been easy to give it 60p. The only other camera that has a 50x zoom is the Canon SX50 for $389 although it shoots 1080 in 24p unlike the Sony which is 60p.

Same here, I would rather have my Panasonic ZS20 20x compact superzoom with 1080p60 than the WX300 that is a little smaller with 1080i60.

The Fujifilm SL1000 is another competitor for the HX300 that I just read which goes for $400 but 1080 goes to 60i rather than 60p. =
