I would like to record the guitar lessons I receive from a teacher using Skype. I've tried all the software available to do the job, all of which was unsatisfactory. So far the best results has been simply to use a camcorder to directly record the screen of the computer. Not an elegant solution, but very effective. I would like to find the best camcorder (without spending over $500) that has: 1. Good video quality. 2. external mic input jack. 3. Ability to use a remote for replay on a TV. When replaying on the TV I need to stop and start a lot and replay sections. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried CamStudio? It's freeware that records all of the screen and audio activity on your computer, saves as an avi file.

Just make sure to test it out and go in the menus to see what options are available. For example, the default might have a time limit that you can remove manually.

http://camstudio.org/

Note that it records everything you see...for example, if you're using a program and minimize the window to see the desktop: it won't show the program anymore because you are only seeing the desktop - keep this in mind.
