I wonder if 4K will be in any of them .

We can add one more lens in the FE range, the 70-200mm f/4.0 OSS FE Zeiss. I also have been told that all lenses are weathersealed (just like the A7 and A7r cameras). So here is the list of lenses Sony will announce next week on October 16 at 5-6am London time (be sure to be on SonyAlphaRumors at that time to follow the event live):

Zeiss FE 24-70mm f/4.0 OSS (likely on market in early 2014)
Sony G 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 (don’t know if it’s OSS)
Zeiss FE 35mm f/2.8 (with that lens on the A7/A7R) the camera-lens size is the same of the RX1/R)
Zeiss FE 55mm f/1.8
Zeiss FE 70-200mm f/4.0 OSS (likely on market in early 2014)

I have been told there is a lens roadmap that Sony could show too.

Sony HongKong sent an invitation for an event which they write is “stunning”. The event starts at 6:30pm (HKT) on 16th October.

We already know what’s coming:
Sony A7 24MP E-mount FF camera
Sony A7R 36MP E-mount FF camera
Sony RX10 camera with fixed ultrazoom
Zeiss FE 24-70mm f/4.0 OSS
Sony G 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6
Zeiss FE 35mm f/2.8
Zeiss FE 55mm f/1.8
Zeiss FE 70-200mm f/4.0 OSS
and obviously many many many accessories…

I'm also very much looking forward to the release of these cameras and the lenses - hopefully they will meet the high expectations and will be able to compete with 6D and D610 re IQ, DR and focusing speed. After some years with Canon I bought 5T kid just to get a feeling for a mirrorless - and am amazed. Fast, great DR (it is better than what I expected). Of course it is a very basic, cheap model, but I'm already sold to mirrorless.

A7-A7r sketch shows the real camera design!
Quote:
There are no leaked images of the A7 and A7r cameras yet but a trusted Asian source sent me a sketch that shows exactly how the real cameras will look! I showed the image to other sources and all said that this is 100% the real camera design! I repeat it… I am 100% sure THIS is the real A7/A7r camera!!! The camera is weathersealed and has the size of an Olympus OMD. And it has a solid Pentax LX feeling.

These cameras will be announced on October 16 at 5-6am London time. And if you want to be sure to be the first in the world to get notified when the cameras are available for preorder or in Stock in US/EU stores subscribe DealsRunner.com (and here is the How To to learn how to get notified on a specific camera).

Yawn. A box with a hole and a removable viewfinder. I don't see a laser-guided gun, maybe it is an option. It is also cannot be seen whether it can be controlled with a beam of thought or can levitate for hands-free operation.

$1,698 for the full frame weathersealed A7 looks like a great price.
Quote:
One more thing: I still have no video specs but I have been told that the cameras are very good in video and have some improved features.

A7 BODY $1,698.00
A7 28-70MM KIT $1,998.00
A7R BODY $2,198.00
DSC-RX10 : $1,298.00

I would say these are very good prices!

Looks much smaller than Canon and Nikon full frame DSLRs.

And finally after long search SAR readers found these pics on Digicameinfo! These are 100% real (confirmed via my trusted sources). The image on top shows the 24 megapixel A7 with the 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens. The image below shows the 36 megapixel A7r with the 35mm f/2.8 Zeiss lens. The 28-70mm lens is quite unexpected big (and well made). A si told you before the A7 uses not the same A99 sensor and the A7r not the same D800E sensor (without AA filter). This is a new version made for these cameras and to avoid issues on corners because of the very short flange distance. I hope the A/r can beat the D800E performance..not bad for a camera that costs $800 less than the D800E ($3000 here at Amazon).

Important: Announcement live blogging on SonyAlphaRumors Wednesday at 5-6am London time! Spread the news on the web! Be sure to subscribe the RSS feed (Click here) and Twitter (Click here) stream and the Facebook fan page (Click here) in order to not miss any news!

A7 and A7r 5% off deal coming for you! In a couple of hours I will share a secret 5% discount code for the A7 and A7r on Dealsrunner.com (subscribe it). You can use it the day you preorder the camera in a specific (well known) US store.

I'm not too impressed with the shape, but as long as it is small and weathersealed I'm not going to nitpick. Looks like a great camera, hopefully without any flaws.

People are talking about it having an improved video mode, maybe with a higher bitrate, maybe with a different codec. Imagine that beast with Prores?

If you dont need AF thats probably the full frame to get. Small size and better IQ than the 5D

I think the 24MP full frame A7 and 36MP A7r cameras are even smaller than the RX1r with grip and OLED EVF.

The first improvement Sony needs to provide for video mode is better de-Bayering! Any increase in video bit rate is completely wasted as long as the camera uses line-skipping. If they can provide a true measured 1920x1080 resolution in video mode, then that will be worth paying for. Otherwise its just the same crappy video in bigger files.

I'm also very tired of moire in these Sony cams. Having had the NEX7, NEX6 and NEX VG30, I find that moire ruins too many videos. Whether it's full frame or not, if Sony hasn't done a better job controlling moire, it's a non-starter IMO.

I question whether the video quality will be up to the GH3. Sony always seems to lag Panasonic in the video quality of their DSLRs.

It would certainly be nice if the new Alpha A7 and A7r had codec options beyond AVCHD (Quicktime .MOV at least). And I hope they keep the A99's headphone jack.

As hatchback said - they need better de-Bayering, not a bigger sensor, to address their moire challenge (especially in a world where they're competing with the GH3 and the BMPC for the video enthusiast's dollar/pound/euro/yen/yuan).

That said, I always look forward to new cameras from Sony. If they keep trying, eventually, they'll get it right. And they are big enough and agile enough to keep trying - which has to keep Panasonic awake at night.

Cheers,

Bill
Hybrid Camera Revolution

Postscript - it will be very interesting to see what the rumored $1698 price for the A7 and $2198 price for the A7r will do to sales of the $2798 A99.

Sony Australia has a countdown clock on youtube that I guess will stream the event in about six hours.

The 36MP A7r should provide competition for the 36MP Nikon D800E.

Video specs :
Quote:
There's no doubt that the A7 and A7R are designed for movie enthusiasts as well as still shooters. Both cameras can record Full HD video at 1080/60p, 60i, or 24p using the AVCHD codec, with stereo sound. All of the promised benefits of the Bionz X processor apply to videos, including improved detail and noise reduction.

Movies can be recorded in any shooting mode by pressing the 'red button'. If you want to manually control exposure or audio level, those options are available too. Speaking of audio, the cameras have ports for both a microphone and headphones. Focus peaking is available in movie mode, and the camera can also display a zebra pattern. Advanced and professional users will also appreciate the A7's ability to output uncompressed video over HDMI.

The Multi-Interface Shoe allows you to connect an external mic, video lamp, or XLR adapter to the A7 and A7R.
http://www.dpreview.com/previews/sony-alpha-7-7r/3

On the right side of the body is the dedicated movie recording button, which seems to move further away from the back of the camera with each new camera.

To the lower-right you can see the NFC symbol, which is where you'll 'tap' your compatible smartphone.

On the left side of the camera, under a pair of plastic doors, are four I/O ports. They include microphone, headphone, 'multi' (for USB and internal battery charging), and micro-HDMI.

I don't see anything new or exciting after reading the B&H write up. Same bit rates, same codecs, nothing startling. In fact these seem to be designed clearly as still cameras first and video second. The GH3 uses the reverse logic.

The claim to fame is obviously the full frame sensor, but if you're familiar with the Sony NEX900, the full frame sensor didn't seem to impact the 'so so' reviews it got.

Anyone see anything I'm missing?

I agree, it's mainly a still camera compared to the full frame VG900.

Jogiba, I've always liked my NEX VG30, but the moire tends to drive me nuts at times. I don't know if you have it to the same degree with your full frame 900.

One thing that the VG30 has spoiled me with, is the OLED VF. The OLEDs are just gorgeous and it's hard to look at a traditional LCD VF at this point. That's one of the things that attracted me to the GH3 (that I'm getting today), 2 OLEDs on both the VF and rear screen. I'm just hoping the moire is better controlled than it is on my VG30.

Ken, I agree that the adjustable angled OLED EVF is gorgeous and the moire has not that big an issue with my VG900 . Since I have many other cameras like the GH2, TM700 etc I use what is the best for the situation. I don't plan on getting the A7 or A7r but the still only guys on the forums are in shock at how small the 36MP A7r is compared to the 36MP Nikon D800E that beat the Pentax 645D in a review on the Pentax Forum !

This looks AWFUL. Yet another line-skipping camera that produces mush. The loss of detail is way beyond what can be attributed to youtube compression. I'd be surprised if they are getting more than 400-500 lines of resolution.
