I made my first visit to Kenmore Camera near Seattle yesterday and drooled on the Panasonic counter. They had a few GH4s kitted with the audio accessory box, but not the body only. It started me thinking about what a GH5 would do beyond the GH4. At my current savings rate, the GH5 may get here by the time I have the money!

bsprague: I bought my GH3 from Kenmore Camera, I ended up selling it as I have too many cameras and not enough time in a day to use them, plus I am not quite that good on the videography side, so right now liking the Sony but need a better all around lens to make this camera shine, as the stock lens it came with is subpar at best. I am curious to see what the Nikon does on video, not nearly as good as the GH4 of course but for a DSLR the movie shot so far look impassive for a DSLR. What I thought was funny about the review, is the Sony lens was more expensive than the body they were using, I doubt it would preformed that well with a standard E-Mount lens, but at least I know what my camera is capable of! wink.gif

2160 60p and higher bit rates for all video settings. Internal 10 bit / 422 recording.

Nah....8K with 14 bit RAW internal recording....clearly Panasonic should be taking a leaf out of another company's book and announce that sucker right now before anyone else does!! That way they can be "innovative" and a "market leader", while competitors have belated "me too" products announced much later.

Delivery on time and with features enabled? Unimportant, minor issue, nothing to be concerned about, real professionals work around deficiencies, that is what makes them superior to amateurs. The more glitches the better in fact, because it makes your professionalism shine through. Get those pre-orders in ASAP so you are not too far back in the line!!!

Black Magic was already following someone else's footsteps. Red cameras also had issues that a lot of people had to deal with.

I got my GH4 from Kenmore in mid-May during a brief window when they got a batch in stock and sold out quickly (had them ship it to California). I'm not sure I'll be looking forward to a GH5 that does 4K@60fps - can you imagine the file size? 4K@30fps is bad enough, but 60 fps would eat up a 64 GB memory card in about 30 minutes! And you'd probably need a really high end computer and editing program to churn through that much data.

Vimeo sends me morning emails suggesting videos I might like. GH4 samples are showing up.

This morning one was of the inside of a Dutch church. Different is that Nikon lenses were used and the processing is describd in the comments. (To read the description and comments I have to use the Google "translate to English".)

The comments suggest that this videographer sees the GH4 as a tool to capture clips knowing post processing is fundamental in creating his work. That's different than than examining original clips and looking for pixel clarity.

BTW I found a 4K drag racing video on youtube commissioned by Jim Jannard, founder of RED Digital Cinema.

This video is a must watch! "Fire Breathing Monsters" is an aggressive and noisy -- yet surprisingly intimate -- tribute to the cars that run in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. Commissioned by Jim Jannard, founder of RED Digital Cinema, on behalf of the NHRA, this seven-minute documentary spotlights the uniquely American passion for speed.

The 4K picture quality discussion here leans hard to the Sony AX100. Mark and Ken have done a lot of work to demonstrate the AX100's abilities. The GH4 seems to be in second place, but for those that like lenses and also want to shoot stills (like me), may still be interested. I continue to find happy GH4 users. Perhaps they are unaware of the AX100, but they are doing good work. I can't post any work of my own because I've not bought the camera. So FWIW, I'll post a link to a "primer" article I found useful.

Hope you enjoy reading it.

Since it seems to be a bit slow in the 4K discussion today, here is a GH4 video I enjoyed. Other than being a GH4 example, I like the story telling, shooting and grading.

Some people will buy this camera because it can produce super-realistic images like those in Mark's terrific videos.

Others will buy it because it can produce images like these:

It boggles the mind that both came from the same camera.

Great looking images, but the shutter speed is too fast IMHO.

Are you implying that the video I posted or that posted by brunerw are not "well made and interesting"? Thanks.

To be fair i had not watched the film posted by brunerw i somehow missed what is a very well made 4k film as is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDcR_K5Y7GQ,my point is we know what great images the two consumer 4K products give and just filming basically boring scenes hand held to show what detail that we know they have does little for me.

Nice! Thanks for the link Bill.

That's a fine example of a video that would "tell the story" with almost any camera. Notice that there was no attempt at a live audio track. No need for a mic jack here. "Romantic" music made it better. Did you try watching it with the HD turned off? It is still good at "telling the story" of women and their horses. The lens choice seems to follow a trend toward, "if not wide, it is not good". I'd not heard of the adapter he used. With such lenses and adapters working on the GH4, there will be videographers buying the GH4 only because it suits their creative perceptions.

A long time ago I tried to start a topic about video creation and story telling. I quickly learned this forum is dedicated and limited to camera performance. This forum likes to be restricted to what equipment can take crystal clear clips. The "gear head" in me loves it. Story telling, editing and video creation knowledge comes from other sources. My meager attempt died quickly.

Not 4K, but the DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ is on my dream list because it can shoot similar clips in 1920x1080.

The Wall Street Journal in-house video team has started shooting and publishing 4K video. To my knowledge this makes them the the first newspaper website in-house team to do so. Their EMEA operation have purchased four Panasonic GH4 cameras as upgrades to their existing GH2s. Eventually the GH4 will become the primary cam in the bureau.

I just received my latest lens today for my GH4, the Leica DG Nocticron 42.5mm f/1.2 ASPH Power OIS that is one of the sharpest lenses tested on Lenstip . It is the fastest lens made with OIS and should be great for handheld shots with shallow DOF since it's sharp wide open .
