After four years Canon still doesn't have a clue about mirrorless cameras.

Somebody named CIPA reported that June was the worst month ever for digital camera sales. Camera companies can't figure out what consumers want to buy.

That is shipments, not sales. My understanding was that production was disrupted by some earthquake they had there. That is probably the cause for the dip. There are quite a number of new models that have had their release delayed as a result.

Or except for a handful of us here who are looking forward to 4K/60 or for fewer still, maybe pocketable VR camcorders. The rest of the consumers out there have simply run out of new stuff they want, let alone need, to buy?

I read an in depth article explaining the economics of the camera market. Basically it stayed relatively steady for the long duration of 35mm film. Suddenly there was a leap in technology to digital. Demand soared. Gradually, the 35mm gear was replaced. Like you say, people gradually ran out of needed new stuff. The article insisted that, until another revolutionary technological change comes along, there will be another stable and much lower volume market. The companies that do well will be the ones that figure out a definable market niche and dominate it.
