Just thought I start a thread for these cameras. My thoughts:

Pros:
Excellent ergonomics. One of the best compact camcorders in this regard.
Reasonable price.
Awesome zoom (22X!)
Excellent outdoor picture quality

Cons:
Small CCD = poor low light performance, although night modes can do a decent job at lower frame rates
While the stereo mic is great, it pics up the transport motor noise AND you cannot hook an external microphone up to the newer ZR models (older ones you could).

I've owned a ZR50 and ZR90. They've cheapened them up a bit since the 50. No more hot shoe. No more external mic support. But the price has really fallen too and the over all quality of the camcorder is very good considering how much the price has fallen.

Hello,
Thanks for starting this thread!

I picked up a ZR200 about a year ago,
but I've been sorely disappointed with the indoor (low light, I guess)
performance. I'm not talking about dimly lit scenes, but mid-day with
the sun shining through the windows along with interior lights.
The picture comes out with so much noise it's almost
unwatchable for me. My low end JVC VHS-C camcorder did a better
job than the ZR.

So are there any settings to improve this? I've tried the "low light" mode
but it seems to cause problems with the autofocus and picture
stabilization features.

I'm planning on cleaning up my indoor recordings with Virtualdub filters
after the fact, so if anyone has advice for a good combination of filters
for this purpose that would be cool too.

Help me like my camcorder!
-Colin

Try setting the shutter speed manually to get decent indoor results. But even this is a minor improvement. The ZR camcorders just suck in low-light conditions, although I didn't think the picture was that noisy when there is at least some natural light coming in the windows.
