I have had installed an Elan G system for my home and my installer says that he cannot connect a relay to my garage door opener as apparently the opener will not support it. The opener model is a Liftmaster Elite 8550.
This is very disappointing as I live in a 3 level house and it was a good feature to be able to open and close the garage door through the system as well as monitoring it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated it.

Well I don't see any information on the "protocol" they have developed but it is a two wire connection. If you have an 'scope you could take a look at the signal(s) on the pair and perhaps learn enough to figure out how to use a external device.

Perhaps you could open the wall mount control and wire a relay to the push button - I can't imagine that the push button is anything more then a contact closure.

Thank you I will try and let you know how it went.

I thought I would update this thread.
I could not find a way around purchasing the Liftmaster Gateway in order to operate the door.
This requires a separate app and does not integrate with Elan system or any system for that matter.
Disappointed but no choice.

What sort of interface does the Gateway provide - serial by any chance?

no network which connects to their servers. but there are up down buttons on the opener so all you'd have to do is open the case and solder some wires across the buttons. same could be done with an extra remote. seems like a lack of effort.

I did not know that this can be done. Coincidentally, my systems guy is coming over this morning. I will ask him to look at it. Thanks for the tip.
The liftmaster interface is not that good.
Will let you know what he says.
