We have many windows in our new house with 2" plantation shudders. Are there any products that I can install that would allow for control of just the shades (not up/down).

Thanks!

I thought we got rid of plantation shudders when we ended slavery. (terrible "joke")

Some info in here: http://cocoontech.com/forums/topic/4210-automating-plantation-shutters/

Problem is you will have to find space for motors & battery pack or wiring without compromising appearance. Which probably means some woodworking.

You have shutters, and shades? Not up/down, but open/close?

Tilt open/close?

I don't understand.

Many shade/blind stores will offer control of plantation shutters. Ask around.

If you want a high end solution, call some local custom installation companies.

If you want really high end, have your assistant PM me.

Last time I checked, there wasn't a good retrofit solution. You would need to buy new motorized 2" shutters. For a single room, that may be an option.

I don't have actually plantation shutters... the builder called them 2 inch faux plantation shutters, so that's what we have always called them. They are just like this picture. Does that make the solution easier?

Yes those are just faux wood blinds meaning they have a headrail and tilt mechanism that can be motorized relatively easily with something like a Somfy Tilt Motor kit.

Builder probably wanted to call them shutters because shutters are a more premium item.

A local shade guy could add motors to those, yes, but not plantation shutters.

I'm intrigued by motorized wifi control. So the motors are driven by wifi? Or the wifi is motorized? biggrin.gif
