Rail Road in my house

I am about a million dollars shy of my million dollar dream home. I have not let that prevent me from researching ideas for a new homes.

Anyways as part of my research I found the enclosed photo, part of domestic local railroad service that visits almost every room in the house.

Not every one needs this. During my months of research this idea is a first for me.

I don't know if the train makes deliveries, cold beverages for example, morning coffee or this morning's Wall Street Journal in bed?

For every 100,000 people who hate this idea some one person will recognize the genus of the idea.

The home I have now has 16 security cameras and a professional alarm system, is wired for Gigabit Ethernet; I am not a miniature railroad expert, after about a week I'd find it grating. But I have seen elaborate miniature railroad systems (confined to one room) and I am thinking one could use home automation to have an elaborate inter-room domestic rail road system.

Very cool. Not something I personally would setup but, looks pretty awesome.

I sent the picture to someone I work with who is a big train fan and he loved it !

Thank you for the kind reception David.

Miniature RR folks can be almost cult like, we might even have a few hiding here. My reaction is much like yours, I admire from a safe distance.

The tie in to this forum is the home automation. One could employ very elaborate and sophisticated miniature RR controls. I could envision transporting my mail from my mail slot to my office desk for example. I've dated a few female coffee addicts. I could ship them a tanker of hot java before they fell out of the ottoman and died on the floor of coffee withdrawal.

Then I could bytch: "Hell woman, you just drank a whole tanker car of coffee!" "Now you want me to pause the movie just so you can what?" ;-)

It would be an unusual Mrs who would tolerate a domestic RR. Use it once as a wake up alarm and it would start WW III.

It might deliver fresh popcorn to the home theater?

Hey, it could deliver milk bones to the dog bed on a schedule?

I love it! I try to steer clear of model train stuff, as I know I could get into it.

Especially looking forward to your Home Automation angle.

Beer seems appropriate, somehow.

I also think it wise to run the other way, when I build I will have to be prudent with my dimes. I don't expect trains to be in the budget.

But it seems like a fun topic, Someone else may do something with HA and miniature trains.

Say you had unwanted house guests? Just send the train over to the guest bedroom for a few quick whistles at 3 am. Or just dump ice cubes in their bed.
