Seems like apple hype/marketing IMHO. The best CD ripper I’ve ever used is EAC and it’s free and recommended by most who take thier CD ripping serious.

Here are a few guides that cover gap detection/handling, test & copy, drive offsets, and other advanced topics.

Also some older guides for EAC v0.99 and earlier:
