I have had my 550 for 2 weeks now. No problems at all so far. I scanned it for dead spots/pixels and have not found any. No ghosting, flashlights, random shut offs or anything like that. I cannot comment on the sound because I have 5.1 system set up. Matter of fact I have never heard the speakers on this thing. I think most people on here have some kind of surround sound set up even if it is a small one, so speakers are not and issue.
As for the colors, it is AWESOME! Bright, crisp and very deep. Been watching some of the college games (Go UNC) on TV and have not had any issues with tripple ball effect. I am still calibrating it some here and there but have not found the perfect calibration or set up. Trial and error on my part. One thing I have noticed, is that this thing will collect dust! I have bought and air filter system and placed it in the same room with the tv to try and control some of it. But I only expect it to get worse since pollen season is upon us here in NC. Anything thing else just ask.

Maybe I am off here but doesn't TBE happen only on sets with AMP? And since 550 is 60Hz without AMP, there shouldn't be any triple whatsoever on it. That's why you don't hear about TBE on 61/65/66, only on 69/71 models.

Thanks man - that's what I am talking about, good post.

As for the dust, be very, very careful cleaning these TV, they will scratch very easily. Apply no pressure whatsoever and use that cloth that came with the TV. For the stand, I use a very soft, damp cloth and just kind of lightly move it across the stand.

Yes, you are correct. I think scubadiverdj was just saying he was happy he did not have to deal with those issues with his 550.

BTW, we will be looking for those jaguars next year

You're right. We should be asking the owners whether they think the 5ms panel has alleviated motion blur somewhat.

Please post some Xbox360/PS3/Wii experiences with these 550's. Thanks. I may go with a 550 as I hate the TOC, at least the red ones.

I am looking more and more at these 550's as well. There seems to be some issues with 650's that *may* be even worse the the red "TOC"...

I will be getting one of these delivered in the next 2 hours and will let you know if I see any improvement with the 5ms response time. I returned a Sony w3000 because of motion blue issues.

I'd really appreciate hearing about this too. I originally had a 5271F, but had to return it do the reflective screen. Since it sounds like the 650's screen is still WAY too reflective for my tastes, I'll likely be going for the 550 instead (don't think I'll miss 120Hz or 5:5 pulldown much).

The one plus is that, during the time since I've exchanged the 5271F, I purchased a Samsung 4053H from Sam's Club. I've grown a little accustomed to the 40" screen, and am suprised by how little the size difference has bothered me. 46" might be fine instead of the 52".

Currently, Big River is showing an almost one thousand dollar price difference between the 46" and the 52" model, so I might just take the smaller one for the time being. A 46" 550 for 1750 shipped is not too bad IMHO.

Careful when ordering as "big river" is not the primary vendor at this time.

Initial impressions. The blacks are very good. The response time seems improved by you still notice slight motion blur when watching sports, but I'm not sure that will ever be solved with LCD TV's. All in all, it seems like a great TV.

No, you have to click on the right side in the list of "also sold by". Amazon proper is one of the vendors in that list. Why Amazon itself doesn't come up when you search for either the 650 or 550 though is a little strange. Seems like they should always be the default vendor.

Okay, but by blurring you don't mean trails or streaks behind objects right? Just that there's a drop in resolution as stuff moves? The latter I'm fine with, the former was a HUGE problem with the XBR4 I had, and why it was sent back.

Found a 10% off coupon for BBuy and will be pre-purchasing the 46A550 this evening. It won't be available in store until 25-Mar so I have to wait...patiently.

Oddly, when I called the BBuy main number, the home-theater specialist could do nothing for me as the 10% coupon was in-store only. I attempted to cajole and sweet talk some other 10% savings on-line but they would have nothing of the sort. Called the local (100+ miles away) store and asked what my options were and they said, "Bring in the coupon and pre-purchase the TV." Done.

Thank you to all who started this thread and posted to it. It took four pages, but reading through convinced me to get one. I had been on the Sony W3000 side of the fence for some time but finally felt this was the way to go.

Thanks again!

Not following what you mean. As a second bonus though, when you do choose the one sold by Amazon, shipping appears to be refunded when you get to the end.

Just picked up my 46" 550. Got it all plugged in but have to calibrate. Thats why Im here.

I got it at Best Buy tuesday, picked it up today. Used the 10% off coupon.

So far it looks great but I dont have HD DTV installed yet so Im using DVD via component. Looks nice but its still Standard Def in 16:9 format so I can't comment on how great HD is.

OK just need to figure out the right remote code for my DTV remote. I used 10060 and 10702 and I can turn the thing off, adjust the format, but not choose the source.

The only thing in the manual is about their AnyNet capabilities but nothing about using the samsung remote as the universal remote for my DTV DVR. Not that I want to use it but at least let me do those three things. I have a 5.1 system so I dont need it to control audio.

Blue Max,

Congrats on the new set! As for the input using the D* remote, you also need to use the 960 code...page 9 of the RC64R manual tells you how to do this (and also in the online remote setup guide).

David or Mike,
I can't seem to find the samsung 32 inch 550 lcd anywhere. Do you have this? If so, could you share where you found it? Also, what is the width? I am deliberating between a 32 and a 37 inch screen, but only have 37 inch wide space for it. Thanks.

^^^No one has it in stock as far as I can see. Most people here are still waiting for it to appear on Amazon along with the other Amazon sellers that might appear with it when it gets put up on the site. There are one or two other sites where you can pre-order it but that's it. Make sure you research sites such as the latter though, there's a few sites out there that are shady as hell for sure. One site even has a 32A650 listed and stated as "in stock" - but such a TV does not exist. You have to be very careful with a handful of sites that seem tempting at times like this. Many of the shady sites will list something in stock when it is not and it will take many, many weeks before they finally ship you something that might not be exactly what you expected.

The remote is definitely, definitely significantly worse on the 5 and 6 series than on the current 4 series. If I upgrade to the 5 series, I will certainly try to ask/see if I can keep the 4 series remote - by switching it with the 5's before I return all of the 4 and its packaging.

Why in the world would they let you do that? Who even uses a manufacturer's remote anymore? Get a nice universal remote and save yourself lots of hassle.

Other impressions:

While i anxiously await my upgraded 5lnb dish from D*, I am using SVideo for the R15 DVR which on this set SVideo is only on the side inputs. There's only one, none on the back. I guess if you have a tv like this you should be shot for using svideo. But tahts the best output from the R15. So until the HR21 is plugged in, that's what I get.

This is my first Big flat panel. I have a 23" in the bedroom and all my PC's for the past x years have been LCDs.

Im trying to get used to the size of it as I went from a 32" crt to this. Menus are easy to navigate, easy to switch sources. The fit and finish is amazing. I thought it would be just OK but they managed to put it together really nice. Response time for the menus is quick and changing channels happens fast. I thought it would take a while given how much Ive read about the slowness of LCDTV's when changing channels. Plus my 23" is dog slow.

Since its all mostly Standard Def, its not very crisp around objects on the screen. However, when watching Speed last night and Animal Planet this morning for a few minutes it is noticeably nicer than the CRT if you have the right channel on.

Blacks are deep. The black in a letterbox view vs the black on the screen itself match in depth so I think that's all I have to be looking for, correct?

My center channel speaker I think may be blocking the remote control eye. Not sure if this thing can do RF or not but the R15 remote is not RF so I'll have to wait until the upgrade.

On the DVD, someone told me that even though I have a Standard def DVD, the TV takes care of the upconvert so I shouldnt have to worry about using an upconverting DVD player. I am using component cables.

Im pretty much an HDTV n00b so sorry I can't explain everything very technically. Give me a few weeks.

That's it right now.

Is this true? I plan on getting the 46550, and was also going to get a Up Converting DVD player.

Off to Best Buy to see if they have any, or pre-order.
