After aganizing over my situation all weekend, and pretty much since the 650 started to become available, I finally made my choice. Me and the gf packed up the 5271 and returned it to best buy today. The process went smooth, took all of 10mins to get it returned. Except at first they wanted my ps3 back because i got $100 off of the 71 when i bought the ps3. I told them no, i still paid for that and i am keeping it and not giving you the $100 back. The lady i was dealing with got a manager and the girl was very nice and agreed with me, so that worked out. I just had them put all the money on a gift card so i could immediatly go buy the 650.

So i went over to the magnolia area, talked to the guy there, he looked in the computer and ordered me the 650. All tho he was trying to tell me about some new plasma's coming out in a week with 480Hz motion processing or something. As interesting as that sounded i do not really want a plasma so i just listened, said oh wow, cool, and continued to order the 650. I also used the 10% BB coupon which was a nice chunk of money saved, and i have 90 day price matching so thats a plus. In 3 months i would expect this tv to come down in price or go on sale at least.

I pretty much just went with my gut on this one. It was such a painfully hard decision too and i feel a huge wait lifted off my shoulders now that it has been made. As much as i did love the 71, i know if i didnt return it and try out the 650 i would always be wondering if i should have. At least this way if i dont like it, i can always get the 71 again. Yeah not for the same price i got it for the first time but oh well i guess.

I am picking my new set up this wed the 19th. I'm glad i dont have to wait to long cause any longer would of killed me lol. I just wanted to let you all know my decision since you were all so kind enough to give me your inputs earlier. Thank you to everyone on the 650 thread and to everyone on the 71 thread for all the help.

480hz bro they freaking hire anyone at BB .. gives us people who do know something a bad name.

480hz would be the panasonics, 80u 85u 's... they have it advertised on their panel... its a measurement of their sub pixel field ...

i guess its marketing .. 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

TV is still ... 60hz.

People see numbers, 120hz .. has to be better than 60 hz ...

500,000:1 ..has to be better than 20,000:1 ...

so they throw on 480hz... woooo

whats next 1080hz ... omg it matches the pixels

sir your 2 dollar hdmi cable from ebay wont work. You need x.v color, 10 gbps 240hz certified Monster super duper uber Series HDMI

To anyone with the 650, does the 650 flicker when you dim the backlight? Sorry if this was answered earlier.

Metal, you dog Be sure to put it in the regular modes and let us know all about stutter, tbe, vapors, etc. It sounds like the entertainment modes are great, but I can't live with somebody elses settings that wont be set to my liking, so if the regular modes still have all the issues, then it is no better than a 71 IMO. Oh, unless of course it has less blur in the regular settings, and don't forget to let us know how the blacks do in a dark environment.

Aww man i hear ya, i had about 5 regular white 360's RRoD on me. Then when my last one did it, i said screw it i am not waiting for them to fix it and send it back. So i just sold the busted one to gamestop and bought the new 360 elite with the 65 chip in it. So far so good, very quite, very cool. Anyways that was off topic sorry. But i cant wait to test it out and post all my impressions. I have very high expectations for the 650 because i did love the 71 even with its issues.

Either way I'm 90% certain I'm going to buy a Samsung 5271f. The XBR4 is sweet too, but I like the Sammy better. The XBR has that nasty border around it that annoys me.

My understanding from the previous post is that you can change the amp to reduce artifacts and which cause a less "soap opera" look. I was just hope you can atleast have the option so that its Soap opera affect is on par with 71s.

Ditto, I to would like to know how a 71 owner would compare the "soap opera" effect with the 650 with it's various "entertainment" settings vs the 71.

Thanks!

lol......You got it studdad, i will absolutely be putting it in the regular mode to see if has stutter, tbe, vapors and all that. I too really really want this set to be able to work correctly without using the entertainment modes, even if they are great. I still like to be able to tweak things myself. And if it at the very least has less blur i will be thrilled. I will do my best to answer any questions i can, and test all the things i can for you guys. I know my knowledge of all this is rather limited and not up to par with a lot of people on here. But i feel i have learned a lot. And with the couple months experience with a bunch of diff 71's, I feel confident that i know what to look for. So again i will do my best, and be more than happy to try to give you guys all and any of the answers i can.

Oh no, with all the chaos in my head trying to figure out if i should make the switch, i completely forgot that i had a service call tomorrow for the 71 that i dont have anymore lol. I better get up early and cancel that before the guys shows up at my door.

I understand perfectly, dont make me out to be an idiot cause im not. I understand exactly what the entertainment modes are and exactly why they work so dont put me down. My only point is till now ther has been no setting that would allow the amp to work right so, so having one period is a big step. The 71 game mode didnt do that. get bent. Its not rocket science, they trun of most of the VP to let amp go full steam what do you think you are the only one who gets this seriously shut up. you can make a point with out being a jerk

that's awesome. I have a 4071 that i just got AGAIN last week. The screen is perfectly black when I turn the TV on and the lights are out. Then after an hour or so of viewing a little but of clouding appears on the top right corner. Only noticable in dark black scenes but still. Then after I turn the TV off for an hour and turn it back on the clouding is gone. Is this normal? Will the clouding eventually go away?

I'm playing burnout paradise city on my 360 which is hooked up through component outputting 1080p @ 60hz. I am hauling ass through the city, this game is pretty fast, and I haven't experienced a hicup yet, this TV is pretty damn awesome with keeping up with the scenery.

I am not using any entertainment mode, just standard out of the box settings except AMP, which I have set on high.

Mosh~~

This TV does give a defined soap look to certain things, not everything. My wife commented on the set looking fake with AMP on high, she also said the people look like they have clay faces and she doesn't like seeing people imperfect complexions.

AMP's effect comes from raising all temporal framerates to 120hz. Sources with the lowest temporal frame rate benefit the most:

Movies (24 fps) - 80% new frames - big difference
1080i24 sources (24 fps) - 80% new frames - big difference
720p24 sources (24fps) - 80% new frames - big difference
1080i30 (30 fps) - 75% new frames - slightly less difference
720p30 (30fps) - 75% new frames - slightly less difference
720p60 (60 fps) - 50% new frames - small difference if any

With console games there are constant framerate drops so the effect varies.

Again, you could be seeing something closer to 5:5 which retains a bit of smoothness but leaves blur. Something's not right.

honestly i think we are trying to say the same thing a different way. I guess what i am trying to say is that the amp is just as pronounced and i like the way it looks better. Dosnt make the film look so stupid but just as smooth. I think their algorithums are just better. I understand your point, but the amp on entertainment mode hasnt been toned down at all. I think we just are defining the soap opra look diferently.

I have done this amp behaves the same way as any other setting exept the entertainment mode, sorry havent been keeping up. I did all that my first day before i new that entertainment modes were on the TV. I was trying to limit all the VP i could to allow the amp to work full speed. honestly it made little to no difference. Not really sure why either, it should have
