My concern is picking up one of these and having buyer's remorse because my current DLP has no artifacts. I don't want to spend $4K to go backwards in pq. My viewing is equally divided by BD/SD/HD and gaming.

Thanks.

The picture quality in any of the entertainment modes will destroy a DLP, regardless of settings. LCDs are just much nicer, less pixely sharper more colorful brighter etc. I thought about a DLP for as long as it took me to get to the store. Once I saw one I changed my mind immediately. Keep in mind motion performance is my most important factor in choosing a TV. But the DLP just takes too much of a hit in PQ against the LCD. The motion on this TV in entertainment mode will blow you away, and look better than any top of the line DLP wile doing it.

This is probubly not a deal breaker. This TV will be much better than what you have now. The lamp will reflect but only in really really dark sceens. I have lights pointing rite at my TV

My question:
Is there a difference in PQ between the entertainment modes and or the standard/non entertainment modes?

It is my understanding that the 71 PQ was noticeably different in game mode.

Thank you in advance.

Mihalis

The only real difference I can see is that move mode is darker than sports or game mode and game mode is darker that sports mode. My wife and kids have confirmed this. I am trying my hardest to see any other differences. I have mine on Standard mode with these settings by just eyeballing it to adjust.

Backlight = 5
Contrast = 83
Bright = 45
sharp = 45 to 60
color = 50
tint g48/r52
------Detail Settings------
black adjust = low
dynamic Contrast = low
Gama = -1
Color Space = Native
White Balance = all 25 (need to get calibrated)
Flesh Tone = +2
Edge Enhancement = on
----Picture Options-----
Color Tone = Normal
Size = Just Scan
DNR = Auto
Film Mode = Auto
AMP = High

I am hoping to view blueray content tonight or tomorrow.

If i were you i'd turn off DNR for most sources. Movie or Cinema mode usually will be darker because of the content. This is true for most displays. Are there still vapors around people and objects when in "standard" or 'dynamic" mode with AMP on medium or high?

Also if you don't mind my asking what state do you live in? As my concern is the state of Virginia.

One last question, are you using the 650 in connection with a htpc?

thanks for your input

I'm somewhat worried about the Picture Quality of this TV not having the same "pop" as the 71 series.
When going to a Circuit City store with their enterainment section dimmed from the rest of the store & all their flat panles lined up & hanging on the walls, The 71 series just flat out destroyed everything period.
Alongside with the Sony XBR4, Mitsubishi 144 series, Panasonic PZ77U & the Z700U models, Samsung own 5884 plasma, Sharp D82U & the Toshiba Regza, all TV's were running the same feed.

When the feed would change a scene, it would go black for a few seconds & the Samsung was the only TV that was inky black black, completely fading into the bezel.
The XBR4s blacks were pretty bad being greyish & hazy, The Panasonic panles were a distant 2nd from the 71 series, Samsungs own plasma was 3rd & the Mitsubishi had the 4th best blacks.

Same when the screen turned all white during the feed. The 71 series just absolutely blew away the XBR4 & Mitsubishi in a pure clean bright white color & the Panasonic plasmas looked so dim in comparison, you would think it was broken.

I think I would go with the better pop & colors then better AMP if the 6 series really has an inferior contrast.

I have the 71. I was just letting him know how to lower the brightness of the screen. It applies for any LCD. But to answer your question, yes, I would be using the modes that allow you to adjust settings, and yes, it looks like the 650 may still have issues in those modes.

52" Samsung 750, finally satisfaction

Manaburn, CC has the 750 for MSRP $3999. Just says "coming soon". They bill it as "A TV so good even Manaburn can't trash it"

Yeah I read a couple people making such comments but nowhere can I find anything that says it comes in a different color, I mean Samsung has these on its website and they certainly do not mention it. I doubt it.

I really want a 650 but I am not sure about the red TOC, has anyone seen a blue TOC? I suppose one could throw some dingle balls on the bezel to hide the color.

Just picked up the LN52A650, initial impressions:

1. Screen is only slightly less glossy than the 5271. There seems to be less reflections when the TV is on than the 5271 but it may be my imagination.

2. The touch of crimson is not very dramatic and it matches my furniture...cool.

3. I haven't noticed any artifacts while watching Bluray or while playing Burnout Paradise on PS3. I will reserve judgement until I play more games/BR disks.

4. I don't like the toggle wheel or whatever it is on the remote.

5. I think this was the only set for sale in my entire city.

Any artifacts you see are because of the low resolution and were not there when I took the picture.

If you put that Robin Williams pic in the kuro thread, and told them you had the 5080/5010, the kuro/plasma fanboys wouldn't realize it was from an LCD. In fact, just for fun, maybe post that pic in the kuro pictures thread and don't let on it's a Sammy LCD.

Believe me, the images look much more stunning in person. These were only low res images due to the size limit on photobucket.

Not that it really captures the essence of the TV, but here you go. Let me know if there is something specific you want to see, I have a few Blu-rays. The cable box hopefully comes in this week as well. I just so happen to be sitting here watching Invincible with my brother.

Leftoverchinese, I think alot of people would like comparison shots of features on and off. I know thats alot and we dont expect such things. A couple of other things would be fast motion pics and pics taken from straight on.

Thanks, your posts have been helpful.

I tried to take a pic with nothing but a black screen and the pause icon with all the lights off but my camera kept blurring and showing it as a blue screen. Sorry, the camera seems to be sucking in low light.
