I wonder if there is a HD version of the Speed Channel.. it there was and Cox added it, I don't think I'd need to watch a SD channel again. Everything else I watch is HD (although not everything on some HD channels are in HD..yet).

Directv Has SPDHD (607 Speed channel HD).

At least for me I wanted a TV that's good for my viewing and I've found that in the 650. I'm here to enjoy the ride and not compete with others. I'll concern myself with the better technology when the time comes for a new TV.

The XBR8 series is not in competition with the 650/750 series. The XBR8 is LED backlit and will compete with the new Sammy 9 series this fall. The new XBR6/7 series is competing with the 650/750 series. In reality, if you can control the lighting conditions, the XBR6/7 will not surpass the PQ of the Sammy due to the immersion factor of the screen. People at CC and BB do not have their jaw drop watching a Blu-Ray on a matte screen. It's the screen......folks.

Hey im thinking about the 40a650. I wanted to know for those who have comcast cable hd box(using and hdmi cable) How does the amp look on sd cable stations vs hd cable stations if its set to low? i was at Bb and played with the menu and saw they had amp set to high. i didnt notice much of a difference between that and the other tv playing but when i looked to see how it was hooked up it was a regular cable feed (no hdmi or component) I have seen the amp at a cc once for a couple of seconds and it was playing games with my eyes. to me it seemed smooth but sort of had this wierd effect on my eyes like everthing was moving

Actually, no I haven't...been real busy with work. I'll try to give them a call today and check the status on that request.

Having AMP available for those inputs would be icing on the cake!

Just got a 52" a week ago, and it might be too early to tell, but, so far, so good - this set is dope, no problems I can see thus far.

I have the worst possible conditions for glare, but still went with the glossy screen of a 650. The bottom line is that it has a better picture (I spent lots of time comparing matte vs. glossy), and I knew I'd hate missing that excellent picture when watching a movie at night in the best conditions of my room.

In the worst conditions of my room (daylight, blinds open) the matte screen scatters some of the light and reflects some. I found that the reflection was dimmer on a matte, but still there, while the diffused part hurt PQ even when the light causing the scattering is not forming a reflected image you can see. At least on the 650, I can swivel the base if I need to.

I noticed my AMP setting was on Medium.

IMHO, the reason it looks artificial is twofold. First, is that we expect motion and cine judder. Removing it and inserting intervening frames produces a different "look" than we are used to. It could even be a more accurate look, but it's not what we expect and the brain says something seems odd.

Second, is the slight halo/vapors around moving objects. These may be almost imperceptible, but still enough to register as "artificial" - even if we aren't sure why it looks that way. This is somewhat unavoidable in motion estimation technology. The chip can't know for certain what is behind a moving object, so it can't be sure what to reveal when it interpolates to create a new frame. Different algorithms may lessen or remove the perception of this effect, but the underlying problem remains.

I have tried searching but with a thread this long it is near impossible. As of right now how is the quality with a PS3 connected to a a650? How is the game lag? Also how is the quality of Blu Ray movies played on a PS3? I just recently bought the TV and was wondering if the PS3 is a good investment with the TV if there is not a lag with the games and the quality of the Blu Ray movies.

I am sure that is a typo because they have it in stock right now so it would probably be shipped later today. Maybe you want to check it again later tonight to see if the shipping info has been updated.

Just call this number 866-216-1072 and select other issue. I think it is option 7. Have your order number handy it will speed things up.

Have fun

Have you viewed an pics with the PS3 on this set? There isn't a LCD out looks and plays better IMO . As far as lag I don't expirence any at all. I heard the 80 GB MGS4 bundle on the 12th will be a good deal with the $100 gift card back. BUY IT!

I have not seen any pics of the tv with the PS3 on it. If there are any in this thread can you maybe point me in the right direction. Thanks.

I got conflicting info when I bought mine too. I think it has to do with how they select the point of orign. Do not worry about it, cause you will get it a lot sooner than that. Track your order status on their web site. You should get a call from CEVA within a few days.

Good choice on the 52, It is the right size for 1080p.

Best of luck, and enjoy your new TV.

I'm probably going to return my 4th 46A650 due to clouding. I thought I'd be able to live with it, but my eyes are drawn to them whenever the screen goes dark. Looks like I'll be waiting for a different brand before buying another. *sigh* So, so tired of exchanging TVs...

And yes, these images are representative of what I see.

So what are the alternatives?

Damn I'm sorry to hear it man. I know if I had clouding I wouldn't put up with it ether. So what are you going to get next? Maybe you should try a 750, we need more 750 owners on here . Anyway I hope whatever you get next works out for you. I know I wouldn't have had the patience to put up with so many defective sets.

I originally had a plasma, and got away from it because of the heat they put out, as well as the dullness of whites, and general PQ of plasmas that I just find objectionable now. There's something about them that just isn't as sharp as LCDs (probably because plasma pixels just are NOT as sharp as LCD pixels!). I did like the vibrance of my old plasma, though. It was a 42" Panasonic 42PD25U/P 852x480!

Anyway, I'm not really sure what else to try at this point. I do like the 650 so much, but it's QC issues are just rampant.
