I'm only familiar with the Harmony One, which as you mentioned can do discrete commands. Here in the AVS forum there's a forum dedicated for Remotes. Try that by clicking here.

It's a mail-in rebate. Click the $200 Rebate link and the Word Document will download. It's a basic form that you need to complete and send in to Samsung

Just one last thing regarding the gaming lag to make sure i get it clearly.. If we turn all processing off, will we still experience minimal lag with this tv, or the lag only start to happen when we have some processing activated.

Thanks again,

Yes, turning all processing off will still give you some lag.

However, even in GAME MODE you're still going to get lag but very very light. As someone else mentioned, only hardcore gamers like myself notice. But its definitely there. The ONLY way to truly get ZERO input lag is to use VGA cables which is what I use.

Problem is, theres 95% of people who use VGA cables (with the Wii mind you) and this TV have had problems when using Samsung displays. I haven't encountered a main problem yet but I did notice a red vertical line coming down the screen about 25% from the left side. It re plugged some stuff in and it went away. But most people experienced problems later on after having the cables for about a month or two. And again: theres ONLY compatiblilty issues with Wii VGA and Samsung, not PS3/Xbox 360

I notice the "p.size" button on the remote, for the LN52A650. And it is quite obvious what it does. But prior to buying this set, a week ago, i was under the impression that the screen would automaticly adjust size, going from standard to the wide format.

Am i mistaken, or is there something in the setup that i need to change, to let the set automaticly change the size of the picture. My husband tells me i'm wrong, but he is no more an expert that i am

I don't think that's a Samsung feature. I know Sony has it though on their W4100 series.

CC delivered my LN52A650 Saturday, right on time, in perfect condition. I am blown away at how good this TV is. It exceeds my expectations in every way. I even like the remote! I had some hesitation about the glossy screen and frame, but that has turned out to not be a problem at all. The out of the box settings seem very very good, hardly any tweaking required. I did a quick check with the (now dated because it's CRT-centric) Avia calibration DVD, and things look very close to ideal.

Now I gotta say I'm not going to do any torture testing on it looking for flashlights or purple haze or any other anomalies, because under normal viewing conditions, this set is amazing. I don't see any of those flaws and I'm sure as heck not going to go looking for them. In fact I see far fewer flaws in the image than I ever did on any CRT-based sets I've owned.

Me *very* happy! The Samsung sitting on a new Bell'O stand looks so much cooler in the living room than the old Sony silver/gray rear-projection set I had. That thing was butt-ugly!

The question is. Is it a cash rebate or do you have to buy something from Samsung for $200? I can't tell from the Amazon and I can't find any info on Samsung site anybody on here no what it is?

Thanks

It is a $200 gift card to MountedMemories.com it is a sports memorabilia web site. I mad my purchase early Sunday morning thinking it was a money back because of the way Big River had displayed it as reducing the price. I have since filed a complaint with them and have yet to hear back though they have since removed the rebate listing from their site.

Ok. I have an issue that I was hoping that someone can give advice on. I just purchased Season 2 of Heroes on BluRay. I was watching it through my PS3 on my 52a650. I noticed that the darker areas and colors are, in my opinion, too dark compared to the light areas. It almost seems that in a scene, the sky is very bright, but the clothes (especially suits) that someone is wearing seems too dark. I have tried various calibration settings including ZeroG, CNET, ... It may be the Heroes episodes themselves, but I would think that some kind of setting change may fix it. Maybe it is black crush? I did notice that the Black Level is grayed out and set to Normal when the BluRay is playing, so I cannot try to change that to low. When the BluRay is not playing, I can set it to Low, however. Any help? Thanks.

So this cable is complete crap. I don't need this high dollar hdmi cable to get the 120Hz from my 52inch a650? I have Directv HD receiver and Sony Blu-ray player hooked up through my Onkyo TX-SR805 receiver.

No, it's an excellent cable, just an expensive one.

Provided you aren't going too far, you don't need one that expensive, but it won't hurt anything except your wallet. It may be mechanically better than cheaper cables. It may send a higher frequency signal, but you don't need to do that. (It's odd that your link doesn't specify the cable length?) You also should know that you never have to send (or receive) 120 Hz through any cables connected to your a650. The cables carry a max of 60 Hz, which is converted to 120 Hz inside the TV.

Do yourself a favor. Go to Monoprice.com. They have excellent quality cables = to or IMO better than Monster for much less $. Many on this forum will agree.

What device are you using? If it will take pronto hex codes, the descretes are available for almost all 650 inputs. I use the Novii Deluxe software for the Palm TX and was able to easily program the input selections. If your device can only learn from IR input, your only hope is to find another remote that transmits them.

Edit: I also recall reading somewhere on this thread that for Logitech, you have to give it the entire model number (with the digits following 650) to get it to work right.

Solved my own previous post on loud fan with LN40A650, manufactured July 2008, took it back and upgraded to the 46" which is utterly quiet! No fan in that model, nothing to worry about in the future with mechanical issues. And a bigger screen

I also ordered my 52a650 on Sunday, but I knew it wasn't cash back. I was thinking more like a gift certificate for Amazon (I didn't delve too deeply). It definitely wasn't clear what it was though and I can see people thinking it was cash. They said the TV cost $2199, and with the rebate it was $1999. Clearly false advertising. Not everyone is into sports memerabilia. I like sports---that's one of the reasons I bought this TV-- but I'm not a collector.

The listing for the rebate is still there, but it's much more clear now. It just says, "Rebate offer: Get $200.00 in Sports Collectibles from Mounted Memories with this mail-in rebate."

Please let us know what comes of your complaint.

And just so this post isn't just about price and such:

From what I gather, the delivery person will bring it into your house and set it up on the stand for you and turn it on. You'll check to make sure it works properly, and inspect it for structural damage. Then he leaves you to enjoy your TV (after you tip him). If it doesn't work properly (and I mean doesn't work. I don't think a little flashlighting or a stuck pixel counts as not working), or if there is structural damage, you can refuse delivery and he will bring it back, and Amazon will send you a new set. Hope that helped.

Anyone else notice a "ripple" affect when watching sports on a field of green grass? It looks like a heat wave rippling across the field while the camera zooms in or out. Has anyone else noticed this?

My settings are default. Thanks.

choose method 2 in the harmony remote input setting section. Dont do method 3, that is what is screwing you up.

DISAPPOINTMENT

I was disappointed to find out that Amazon.com no longer (effective Sept. 1) will refund the difference if the purchase drops in price within 30 days. Pooooo. I just lost out on a $50 refund.

I'm about to order the LN52a650 from Amazon myself after MUCH hand-wringing. I saw the $200 rebate, too, and I'm disappointed that it was so misleading. Regardless, I'm now wondering what cables I'm going to need when the TV lands. This is my first HDTV purchase and I'm getting a entire system. It's unclear what cables come with each product and Amazon is no help - the folks on the electronics assistance telephone line know nothing.

This is what I'm getting:

the LN52a650
Samung's BD-P1500 Blu-ray DVD player
an Onkyo receiver - the TR-SX606
Apple TV
and I have a cable box

So, what cables do I need to order from Monoprice or a similar vendor? Oh, and is there a wi-fi dongle for the LN52A650 like there is for the LNxxA550?

Thanks for the input.

I ordered my 650 from Amazon yesterday and the rebate form that I got is from Samsung directly and it is for $200. It seems that anyone purchasing the 650 from whoever would quality assuming it is within the 30 day window.

Whew! Good thing I ordered mine on the 21st. I've already took advantage of an $80 price drop and I just called and got an extra $50. They lady tried to tell me the discontinued the price guarantee, but I told her I read that it was for orders placed after Sept. 1st and that this order was placed in August. She then said, "ok, I can do that for you" in her heavy indian accent. Sneaky b**tards!

On Sept. 1st I got a 2nd refund from Amazon. If your order was placed before Sept.1 they still might do give you a refund... here's what it said in my email:

"Only orders placed before September 1, 2008 are eligible for a price difference refund under the Post-Order Price Guarantee policy. As of September 1, 2008 we are no longer offering discounts if prices change on our website after you make a purchase."

Me, too. I ordered my set on 9/1! I just called them and threatened to refuse the shipment and reorder the set at the lower price. They are going to have somebody call me back on this. Let's see how "reasonable" they can be!

It depends on how you want to do it. If you want to switch the video on the Onkyo or just the audio. If you want to switch both audio and video on the Onkyo you would need.....

1 HDMI cable to go from the TV to the Onkyo (Output)
1 HDMI to go from the Cable Box to the Onkyo (Input)
1 HDMI to go from the DVD player to the Onkyo (Input)
1 HDMI to go from the AppleTV to the Onkyo (Input)

So 4 HDMI cables, lengths to be determined by your setup.
