Hi guys,

Just finished reading all this great info. I just bought the 40A530 after waiting and researching for nearly 5 months! Glad to see the whole 20K/30K is settled (30K it is). I actually haven't had cable in 2 years and a friend has been lending me his 27" CRT hooked up to my computer for the last year. I know. I'm a TV caveman compared to you guys but I'm very excited to jump to HD

Btw, I bought mine in Ottawa from Leon's for $1550 and that includes delivery. I was gonna go to best buy, but it's $1600 there + delivery. I'll be getting it this Friday. Can't wait!! Will configure/optimize then and hopefully post my findings.

Here's a question that I received an answer to regarding this set, and I'm wondering if it has any merit to it. I asked why the 4069 was still more expensive ($1800) than the 530 ($1550) even though the 530 is supposedly better in specification. His reply was that they were able to purchase this new TV using the current market value of the CDN dollar, whereas the previous purchases were done when the CDN dollar was not as strong.

Any comments from the retail guys? I don't know how it works in the retail stores when it comes to ordering stocks of TV from distributers.

Thanks!

Thats probably partly true, but I am not an expert... Sometimes they can work something out with the Manufacturer if they have a lot of remaining stock... but they may just hold inventory and try to sell them at a specific price point to minimize losses.

Its kind of like how I STILL see the Sony 40V2500 series TVs at futureshop price similar to the current v3000 series. There must be a ton of them around they are trying to get rid of.... and not doing a very good job at. They will still be selling them when the new models come out, thus making them 2 generations old...

question... do the touch-sensitive controls light up? it seems samsung has dropped that from other models this year, so i doubt this one does, but just asking to be sure...

question, what size is your set? i'm considering the 46A550 but my TV stand isn't very wide so i i would like to know how wide the base is of the 46" model.

I have the 46" and the its mounted to the back of my stand . I will measure the tv's base so you know if it fits on your stand. I will post a few more pics tonight.

beauv,
If possible could you take some pictures showing SD, HD and DVD so we could see the image quality for each. Thanks!

yours are better than a lot of others ive seen. but some basic tips would be, try to pause the screen when taking a shot, keep your hands as steady as possible (use a tripod if you have one) and turn the flash off (you already did this).

I'm using the same picture options as THEBEGINNING posted, and they seem "ok". In the daylight the picture isn't bright enough for me, but when I pump up the backlight this TV is blinding at night, I can't seem to find a decent setting for everyday use. HMMM what to do...

We carry both this and the 550 at work. I don't understand what the point is, by having 2 tv's that are basically identical. Last year, it at least made sense with the 61/65, since one was matte and the other glossy. But other than the styling I really have a hard time discerning the differences in the 2 models. Typical sears, carry things that are identical, but sell the "better" one for the same price as the cheaper. Just to confuse the buying public.

the LNTxx42H and LNTxx53H were essentially identical as well. the only difference was a the 42H had 1000 less dynamic contrast, which made no noticeable difference. there were other minor differences as well. the main difference between the two were the bottom mount vs side mount speakers, which is the same case here.

For those of you who bought the 52inch 530 from BB in Canada, they just put it on sale for $300 off.
So go haul @$$ and get some money back

P.S. I think they also dropped the 46 incher's price as well.

Hi Guys,

Have any of you by any chance created any modelines for this TV? I'm trying to hookup my computer (Ubuntu Linux) and no luck so far. Will be experimenting in the next few days. Mind you, I'm using the VGA port, rather the HDMI which will be hooked up to my Windows PC.

How are the viewing angles on this set? I have an HPT5064 that's a little over a month old and I'm thinking about selling it and getting one of these. The IR is just really getting to me. Viewing angle is one of the prime reasons I went with plasma to begin with since we have a wide living room and like to get 4 people playing Rock Band at once.

How about the black levels?

Any noticeable Image Retention problems?

We too play Rockband with a full house and never have an issue with viewing angles. In fact, right now I'm sitting at about a 45 degree angle to the TV and it looks just fine.

Black levels seem ok as well once I got them dialed in. I've never seen any image retention and I do a lot of gaming and the kids watch a bit of SD with the black bars sometimes (although I encourage them to stretch it!).

You will not regret buying this TV. It may be the best value in LCD available.

For all the people that like to hook up computers to your TV:

Last night I setup my Windows PC at 1920x1080 to my Samsung 40" LCD TV after isntalling SP3. Looks amazing. I have a Radeon card...nothing new. It's AGP 8X. Also hooked up my macbook through DVI to HDMI. That looks good too but the macbook did not centre itself as good as windows when I made the TV my main screen with the Dock, but plays video beautifully. Also got the Linux server at 1600x1200 through VGA. Looks very nice, but useless since I use my Windows and Apple computer for video and my Linux computer as a server.

Also downloaded a 720p wmv file and a 1080p wmv and had my girlfriend watch both running off the macbook. She couldn't tell the difference. We sit about 7 and a half feet away from TV. She's gonna be my test subject for next week or 2

Also running my Wii on regular RCA cable. Very nice, but I will be ordering the component cables soon from monoprice, so I'll see if that changes things up.

I've also been watching some downloaded TV episodes and they look pretty decent for 480p quality.
