Or as I would figure:
If the TV is as old as mine, 4.5 years that would be 4.5 years x 365 days in a year=1642.5 days x24hrs in a day =39420.... unless the TV was purchased before mine(07/'08) it would have to been on a little more than 24hrs/day.
To figure another way, 39860/24hrs in a day =1661 days of 24 hr operation, 1661/365 days per year=4.55 years of 24hr operation eek.gif
Either way thats a lot of hours biggrin.gif

I purchased mine late 7/08 so 4.45 or call it 4.5 years I work full time my tv is off more than 10 hrs a day there was a summer or two that I watched very little TV due to boating season and other activity, I just called Sony and no explanation or even knowledge my manufacture date is June 08 so what gives.

^^^ I agree, your numbers seem out of whack confused.gif
I could almost believe mine at 9.4hrs/day which at first seems kind of high but it's probably on most every evening 4-10pm plus a little in the morning. Add to that longer weekend and summer hours when my kids are home from school and it just might average 9.4hrs/day. No idea whats going on with your hours though.....for how you describe your usage I'd be more inclined to believe 3,986 instead of 39,860 hours....
For kicks you could read the numbers again, then leave your TV on for several hours, then take the reading again. The longer time you leave it on for testing the better due to the fact you wouldn't know if it was just about ready to switch to the next whole hour and same thing goes for when you read it again it may be at the beginning or end of the next whole hour. If you wanted a more accurate reading 10 hrs ON would help average out things, just a thought.
I'm going to be looking at a used 52" W4100 like yours this weekend, I really love the features and picture of my 46" but I'd like something a bit bigger. When I purchase my 46" I believe the 52" was quite a bit($500??) more than the 46" so I ended up with the 46". It's served me very well which is why I'd kind of like to get a similar model and retire mine to the basement Wii TV biggrin.gif I'd love to put it in the bedroom but a 37" is the max for the cabinet it's in frown.gif

Don't know 3986/1620=2.45 hrs a day I know its more than that, so I have no clue if I had to guess I'd say between 6-10 hrs on different days and almost continues from Friday night through the weekend I'm not going to worry about it I was just curious though.

Just for a follow up I watched for a approximately a total of 14 hours +- 30 minutes the reading went from 39860 to 39883 or 23 hours so it is bogus it over reads by a huge number just thought I'd put it out there.

No it's Sony hours, seriously I think the hour meter must continue when the power is off and just being plugged in for some reason weather it's intended or a defect I don't know, so 39860 /24hrs = 1660.83 = 4.55 years that would make sense.

smile.gif Well I picked up the 52" W4100 and believe it or not it only had 9,796 hours and 1739 power ons cool.gif Almost 1/2 the hours mine has and less than 1/4th the power ons of mine, that I've never had problems with! Dang and for only $550 which as noted above was basically how much the 52" was over my 46" back in '08. Oh and has been stated above the trick for displaying hours on the 52" is exactly the same as the 46" model.
I calibrated all the inputs exactly the same as my 46" (instead of doing it from a test DVD the way I did on my 46" back in '08, which took days to tweak) and I'm happy to report the picture looks just as good, if not even a bit more punch to it(brighter whites, similar blacks). It's only 6" bigger but boy it sure seems bigger and will be nice, especially for wide screen BDs, all in all I'm very happy and thanks again to ed_in_tx for posting the secret code smile.gif It's nice to just know the hours are actually less than my 46" which again has been problem free. I can't explain why fritz1's shows so many hours but in the case of both mine I think the hours are accurate. The guy selling my 52" said it hadn't been used that often and from the hours I believe him.

Now I wonder if this thread will slumber for another year........and interestingly enough it was a year before that post that it sat dormant for a year.......

A video that I found on youtube that shows very closely what the problem with my TV is:

Any comments, advise? I want to sell it, but I'd like to fix it before...

Thanks

For about a month now, I have started to notice these lines as well... and looks like they are growing! At first there were only a couple, now there are 4. confused.gif
I hope this doesn't mean EOL on this beautiful set that otherwise has served me very well. I actually prefer it over my Sony EX500

Any ideas please??

btw, the youtube link no longer works.

Its more than 20% bigger in square area so it should seem bigger! biggrin.gif

Actually I just looked at displaywars.com comparison tool and it says that the 52" is 27.79% larger. That's significant!

Does anyone know if there is a way to get a 40w4100 to display the signal strength of channels that are being received via the antenna input? I am getting ready to hook up an antenna on my roof, and am looking for tools to help me aim the antenna. I looked in the manual, and played with the controls on the remote, but could not find a way to do this. Any ideas?

Hit your menu button, at the very top is product support open that and then signal diagnostics.

It's listed in the manual.
