Picked up my 52" XBR6 and everything looks good so far.

If anyone is interested, the carton size is 53.5" (W) x 39.5" (H) x 16" (D).

The only thing that I am dissapointed at Sony is the design of the carton. They should be using clips to hold the carton together instead of two plastic bands. Now I have to find some way (packaging tape) to put the carton back together so I can transport it.

You can take the straps off without cutting them and put them back. We do it all the time to check for shipping damage.

Yes, calibration is important...every user should be calibrated.

Need electronics repair? A great place to start looking for a shop in your area: http://www.tvrepairpros.com/

My 52xbr6 was delivered tonight at 6:55pm pst. I bought from BB with a 10% off coupon earlier in the week and scheduled delivery for 3:30-5:30p today - they were 1h30min late, but to their credit they called twice to say they were running late and refunded the delivery charge, so I'm happy with them. All that mattered was it was delivered 10 min before the first pitch of the Dodger-Cubs game. I wall mount with a dual arm reticulating (sp) holder, but had it on the stand to watch the game. Hooked it up to my HD DVR through my hdmi hd Yamaha receiver and watched the game, and after the game mounted it on the wall.

I am thrilled so far with the pic and tv. It has one stuck pixel out of the whole thing, maybe it will break in - the pixel is blue. It is in the upper rt corner. But you can only see it when within 1 ft. No flash lighting or any other issues. Everyone was blown away watching the game. The detail is amazing. The inflield grass, beads of sweat, ... every detail. Love thetv.

I have been on the fence over my 52XBR6. I picked it up after returning a Samsung LN 52A850. The Samsung picture had more POP. The Sony has things I like over the Samsung.

I debated buying an 55XBR8. It looks good, but initial reports certainly do not make the 8 twice the price of the 6 good. So I am thinking the 6 will stay and I will have it calibrated.

I feel having the 6 calibrated would make a big difference, I am curious if anyone has had an XBR6 ISF calibrated, if so your results.

Thanks for your time and comments.

sounds like promising reasoning. i hope you will followup with the results if you go ahead with the calibration.

btw, i recently read in these forums that a guy signed up to have his sony professionally calibrated and was told that he would have to wait for the set to have at least 100 hours use set at VIVID, otherwise the calibration would not be accurate. please verify or not if you go this route.

thanks

iirc afaik fwiw imo

I just bought a 40" Xbr6 and for the 10 minutes I messed around with it I was impressed. I returned my 46" samsung 650 to get the 40" xbr6.

The Xbr6 that I received was cracked in the bottom left corner so I have to pick up my replacement tomorrow. I can't wait.

Btw TVbc...When I had my Samsung, they told me that I needed to have it on for 200 hours to get it calibrated. So 100 sounds better than 200 to me haha.

I was at CC on Sat and saw the 52" XBR6 next to a 52" A850 both playing Ironman from a BluRay player. Overall, the Samsung had better PQ but not by alot. I could easily see reflections from other TVs any time the picture was dark or in the black bars. There were still dim reflections in the Sony, but to a much much lesser degree. Both have glossy bezels that reflect everything. I didn't realize that the Sony's bottom speaker attaches to the frame via some clear panel (aka dust or fly trap). I didn't like this. The Sammy is thinner, lighter, nicer looking, and $costs$ less. The store was too loud to tell if the Sammy's internal fan was an issue. The reflections were the top sore spot for me as any room which isn't pitch dark will reflect something annoying. Neither panel was a hands down winner.

WOW! it doesn't bother you to go down 6in. that's a pretty big difference in size. Well I bet it will look real crisp @ that size..good luck with your replacement.

Well so far my replacements good. No cracks, dead pixels, or anything.

The only thing that I noticed is that the tv makes a pretty loud buzzing noise. Does anyone else have this problem?

Yeah well the 46" was kinda too big, so the 40" fits much better now.

The Circuit City website has lowered the price on the XBR6 52" by $400.
You have to put it into your cart for the additional $400 to come off.

I bought mine in a store for $3699 and brought in the receipt today, told them to check their website price, and they honored the $3299 price and credited my credit card $430 (extra $30 for tax).

Just wanted to let anybody know who purchased this at CC in the last few weeks that you can get the credit also. I am pretty sure all models came down
a pretty significant amount.

I'm never satisfied. While the XBR6 was the best TV this year before the XBR8 there was always something off about it. It's like this, was it the best Sony? Yes. Was it the best tv in it's price range? No The Samsung A850 series beats it and it's cheaper. I spent 2 hours in 2 different stores yesterday comparing. Samsung was sharper and had a better overall picture. Just hate that red and the glossy screen. Plus I refuse to give Samsung my money.
Today I went to the Sony store and spent an hour with the XBR8, now that's a TV! Just an expensive one. Well I wish you all luck with your XBR6's, me I will be in the XBR8 forum now. See ya!

There's a blue which is a lot more mellow. It's called the 860.

So you rather spend 3 times the amount for an XBR8 over a Samsung 8 series which you just said offers better PQ than a comparable Sony? Why?

You've gone from making a very educated decision based on letting your eyes be the judge as to which manufacturer delivers better PQ, to furthermore realizing what an incredible value the 8 series would be since you'd be getting a superior product for a cheaper price, but because it says "Samsung" on the front you say "nah, screw it" and to hell with all the time you spent researching?

You've completely lost me here.

You're stuck with the set now? Can't you just exchange it for the XBR8 and pay the difference? You're still well within 30 days.

Or have you decided to get the Samsung afterall and thus can not return a used set to Sony unless you're exchanging it for another Sony model?

Correct. And I got a $1,500 gift card for Sony Style from my work as a bonus. Therefore I can only get Sony.

I noticed that the XBR6 has a lower MSRP than the XBR5. I also notice that it appears to be a lower end model.

What is the XBR6 supposed to replace since it seems the XBR8 is supposed to replace the XBR4.

I agree with you demarco5. I had a chance to see the xbr6 side by side with the w4100 at a small local retailer. They were on the same comcast cable feed & I played with them for about 45 mins. I thought the xbr was only marginally better. By that I mean better detail and skin tones. The off angle viewing was not as bad as I expected. Of course the xbr was hundreds more than the W. IMO, the Samsung series 8 has better PQ then the XBR6 for less money. Only problem for some people may be reflections off the screen. I'm waiting for the 52" XBR7 before I decide. Like many, I feel the XBR6 is a disappointment.

Yesterday I went to CC and bought the 40xbr6. (I could not hold myself). Will try it for a couple of weeks and will decide if I will kept it.

The set is fine so far. HD pictures are nice, SD ok.

Last night I noticed that when I am watching dark scenes, I can see a lot of grain in the image that will last until the scene change to a bright one. Watiching the set during the daytime, the grain in the picture is less obvious but still there.

I had a 37 Sharp unit and I don't recall this issue before. I have not play with the settings yet.

Is this is normal because I am watching a non 1080p signal on a 1080p set with just the Bravia Engine 2?

Beside that, HD shows (like CSI Miami) are great for my taste.

Thank you all for the information and help.

Correct. Just look at all the unhappy owners of the XBR6 in this thread and all the reviews in the 2008 Sony Bravia thread, where 95% of the people (including myself) who've viewed the XBR6 and XBR4 side-by-side have clearly thought the XBR4 is the superior product.

That's why you still see so many people on the forum desperately looking for XBR4's, which speaks volumes for how badly Sony has dropped the ball in 2008. Investing in prior-year technology isn't usually wise, so for people to look beyond that really says it all about the XBR6.

No true! The XBR8 is better then the XBR4/5 just costs a crap load, which is why I returned my XBR6.
