folks, i seem to have a brighter vertical line on my TV noticeable during panning shots of football etc. The line is visible if i stand side on to the screen on a black no input screen.

Are these lines common or should i exchange??

I was looking for a 40" for my bedroom when I came across the deal at Crutchfield for the XBR7 and free wireless HD transmitter. Wow! Out came the credit card!

Amazing deal!

Thanks, it's still cheaper with no sales tax (for me) at Crutchfield. I don't need the wall mount or DVD player that J&R is offering.

Either way, these are both smoking deals!

Is $899 a good deal for a brand new 40" XBR7 without the added items from Crutchfield, albeit from a private party?

The clouding looks out of control

What you have is flash ights not clouds. Also known as corner bleeding. Try updating the firmware and if that does not work get a replacement.

Thats why I always buy my TVs in store. Sony Style opened the TV out of the box let me test it, play around with it checking for clouds and flashlights.

I have this problem, I have a 550 connected to my XBR7 via HDMI. Dialogue is sometimes hard to hear over background music and explosions. Does any one have any idea how I can fix this?

When I asked crutchfield about the clouding issue, they said it was fixed and all there xbr7 were a good batch? I take it the advisor was wrong..

Yes, he was just trying to sell you a set, although at the price now it's a super deal. They are on closeout, there are no new batches.

I had to return the first one I got from Crutchfield, the clouding and flashlights were horrible. They replaced the unit for free, shipping included. The second unit is much better, although there is a slight brightening in two corners. It doesn't bother me too much cause I'm using it in a bedroom. YMMV. It has a beautiful picture in every other respect.

OTOH, there really shouldn't be any excuse for an XBR to have these problems, this is supposed to be top of the line, right?

What is a 550?

If you are using the TV's speakers, there is a control to raise the volume of voices in relation to everything else. If you are going through a receiver, you have to adjust it through that.

The audio on this TV is better than most other LCD's I've heard. Those front speakers help alot.

Does anyone own a xbr7 without flashlighting? I started notice spots on 2 of the corners last night. Crutchfield is sending another unite out now.

Read the thread, that's what it's here for. Then decide.

40XBR7 is very good lcd imo. I saw one on ebay for around $1000 shipped new with full warranty. and dont forget through bing.com, ebay is offering 8% rebate, that will save you extra $80 or so.

I love mine -- it's a great tv, particularly at the price it is going for now.
