Okay, the Black Friday ad for Wal-Mart is out and they have an Emerson 32" LCD HDTV for $388. The ad itself says 2 HDMI ports, but doesn't give a model number.

Checking the Emerson website shows these two HDTVs:

LC320EM8. and LC320Em9

Both of these only show 1 HDMI port.

Walmart.com shows this:
Product ID: 9107635

Which is the LC320EM9, but says 2 HDMI ports, but doesn't have the pictures.

Here's the question: 1) Is this unit good for the money? It's meant to be a starter HDTV for a bedroom (about 6 to 8 feet from the screen to my bed) for use in watching television and gaming. The contrast looks good at 1500:1, but it doesn't mention the refresh rate. 2) Is it possible that Emerson/Funai made a 2 HDMI version of the LC320EM9 for Wal-Mart, or there's an upgraded model?

Thanks.

Alternatively, there's a 32" Viore for $399 on Wal-Mart right now (Model V32NAFC-UTA) which says 2 HDMI ports, 1500:1 contrast, and 8ms response time. Ideas?

Presuming either no opinions, or it's too low end for anyone to guess at.

Probably too low a price for anyone to hazard a guess or even bother. I always say: to get the best info go to the manufacturers site and download and read the .pdf file of the owner's manual.

$399 for a 32" flat panel. Seems unbelieveable.

Well, I admit, I'm on a tight budget. If I could afford a good unit for $500-600, I would.

WalMart will also have a 32" Samsung LCD on sale for $499. A much better display, IMO (you get what you pay for).

Now I'm thinking about the Dynex 32" at Best Buy for $399 also, and getting the 4 year warranty for $69.

I still think the Dynex may be better. Better contrast, better response time (6.5ms, I'm told)...

Neither has QAM (Quadrature amplitude modulation) tuner in it. So if your on cable you will not be able to receive the locals or any other unscrambled channel they are sending in Hi-Def....Just a thought....This is for cable only!

Does anyone know for sure if this year's model has a QAM tuner? I was planning on buying this model.

Tomorrow (Saturday) the 32" 720p Panasonic is on sale at Sears for $499. IMO, it's better than Tosh, Emerson, etc.

Target...today 11-28-29-08 has a 32" Westinghouse LCD for 299.99. I looked it up quick on line. Not sure about the contrast ratio....but it does have NSTC/ASTC/QAM tuner, with all the other inputs also. It is something to check into perhaps!

Do you think that Westinghouse at Target is a decent buy? Don't know much about Westinghouse, but it seems like a good deal.

Thanks.

The Panasonic TC-32LX85 for $499?
If that's right, I'll be there tomorrow when they open.
BillP - Is there a link or something for this?

Thanks.

Today I saw the RCA 42" for $598.00. Looked up the reviews, and it
seems ok..

Specs are here, although I really don't know what to look for.

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...ReviewTitleBar

We still have our Toshiba 36" tube from Oct. 1999...

I would stay away from brands like Emerson, Westinghouse, Dynex, RCA. After 5 years of tracking data, at least the Consumer Reports listing of better brands is a good index of who will give you a reliable unit. Some of the off brands like Emerson you can't even be sure what the specs say on the box is truly what you get.

I've had a 32" Emerson since May of '07 and love it. Just recently there is a vertical red line that shows up when the set is cold but is gone after it warms up. I'm waiting for something else to go wrong before I bring it in for service.

I just got back from Sears. Great buy (for the absolute best 720p 32" LCD, IMO -- 10,000 contrast ratio, and best side angle viewing).
