I recently had a little fire in my living room and as a result have had to move out of my house. My TV will be replaced. I'd rather wait until February or March to replace unless prices usually jump up after the Xmas holidays.

any thoughts?

Probably not too much. Most likely the introduction of new models will force prices down for the models they replace but that's about it.

how about this? - I missed all the Black Friday sales and now I see prices have actually gone UP on the set I wanted and some places are selling out of the model I wanted.

do you think the prices stand a chance of going down again before Christmas, or should I just jump on whatever the best deal I can find now?

In this economy I would suspect prices will at least be flat. I'm sure most of the big box stores will honor the so called holiday sales price if there is inventory. They are not doing well.....

They should go down a little...just before the Super Bowl.

After having witnessed the mugging of a snail by a fellow snail, the investigating officer asked the DMP-BD30 what happened to which the BD player replied "I don't remember...it happened so fast."

I actually think the best pricing I saw last year apart from Black Friday occurred in January leading up to the Super Bowl.

That was early this year. We are in an uncharted territory so who knows exactly what would happen. Maybe all the manufacturers will cut back on productions and prices will stay flat. And even if there is a drop, probably don't be that much to sing about.

I think this will be the norm for a while. I worked pretty hard on them, but I paid 30% less on both by plasmas over two years ago.

I got a great price on my TV at a SuperBowl sale in late January/early February. It was a $2200 TV that I got for <$1500 (including a 4 year warranty). There is always going to be a sale and you will more than likely see a better one after you buy yours. That's just the way it works in electronics.

There's nothing to see here.

I would think probably see a price drop just before Christmas and New Year then again just before the Super Bowl

Actually, I think you will see prices continue to drop at least until after the February switch over to all digital.

I am sure they will go down with time. In another 2-3 months time we will see a difference of atleast $100

There are some good deals out there right now. But I am sure that the more you wait, the more they will come down. Check www.dealnews.com .

Good Luck and let us know what you end up getting!

I agree we are in uncharted territory given the world economy, but I think companies including Samsung will be more inclined to lower prices this year than last.

With 2009 being the digital TV switchover, prices may not react traditionally. Many people will panic when their sets don't work in February and rush out to buy. I think the manufacturers are banking on this (at least the stores are.) Cable TV companies are even giving simple setups to people for the tranition - in hopes that people will upgrade eventually.

My guess is that supply and demand will rule post Xmas till March/April at least.
