Do the newer LCD's still have the screen dimming issue when you are not directly in front of the tv....or as in my brothers tv if i stand up the screen dims substantially. thanks for the info!

I wouldn't say it's a general problem. Pick out a few TVs you are interested in and then check in here for people discussing those models. My 3 year old DLP dims far more off-center (especially in the vertical direction) as compared to a new 32" Samsung LCD that I bought for my parents.

Some LCDs are a little better off to the side, but most lose their picture quality as you move off of the direct front view.

As mentioned by Semblance, pick a few tvs you like at the store and then check the owner's threads on this forum for opinions.

But if you are going to do a lot of off center viewing, you won't like the picture as much as straight on with LCD.

Two Sony Bravias here, I can't say I see any dimming. My old Sony lcd would do that, but I have not seen it on my recently purchased 46 and 52 inch sets.
