maybe. call fry's. vizio are always expanding. afaik they are at the clubs, sears and walmart.

their site used to have iirc their dealer's logos pasted on their homepage; now that they've got a more upscale design such commercialism apparently is verbotin (careful vizio...)

here's link to a vizio press release describing how walmart is key to their success.

Thanks!

I have a 40in led 81f samsung and I had a sharp 46-64 lcd and sold it because I stopped watching it after I got the samsung.
First of all the led local dimming works great the 81f is rated a 8ms and I watch a lot of ice hockey and I have no blurring.
If you don't watch hockey I can tell you that on my old tube tv if their was a spot on the screen you would sometime think it was the puck.this does not happen on my samsung in hd the puck is real clear!
motion plus works great but you have to have the samsung on movie mode to turn it on.
Led with local dimming is a great step forward and so is the motion plus(stropping of the led's)I don't know about amp but when it first came out on the samsung 70 model I did not like it but you might be able to turn off all the xtra's on the vizio 551.
I can ajust everthing on the samsung 81f and think the vizio 551 will do the same.

There seems to be possible good news pertaining to the red speaker bar that was shown on the pre-production model at CES. The editor-in-chief of Televisioninfo , who reviewed the set from CES (i posted the first impression review earlier in the thread), addressed some of the concerns from potential buyers and stated that his best guess is it will not be on the released 551 series model. Obviously it's not definate but a good sign from someone who is used to seeing pre-production TV's before the final look is rolled out.

So Im in WalMart the othe night and I go walking into the A/V section just to take a look at what they got and I see this Sanyo 52" LCD hanging on the wall and the thing that made me look at it was how cool it looked (the TV it self, not the picture, it wasnt even turned on) all matt finish black, no shinny gloss black bezel and no speaker bar thingy hanging off the bottom of it.
The Sanyo just looked way classy and not cheap in any way.

I was just standing there looking at the Sanyo thinking, why cant Vizio do this,, its so darn simple and looks so good.

Sanyo 52" LCD

Checked it out,, that is a nice looking Vizio,, very simple clean design.
And yes, a black bezel is needed.

On side note,, one would think offering the same panel in different colors/designs would be a no brainer and very easy to do for these panel makers.
You can buy the same model of a car in just about any color or design,, why can't panel makers offer the same with the plastic bezel.
Or a easily detachable bezel that can be painted.
Or rubber skin's like they sell for cell phones.

Cheers

Now that is a good idea. I'm sure it would be simple for them to do. You could color coordinate your living room or home theater room.

you mean like sony has offered for their bezel's and speaker pods ?

(they don't want to be messing up the dealer's stocking problems. and it ain't all that simple. it costs to produce different bezels and i think vizio still wants to keep the price down

I'm wondering when the 55" version of this TV would be released with the Connected HD part Vizio is touting. I think I read they were rolling that out in Fall.. but who knows what models and how much longer I would have to wait to get a 55" LED backlit version with Connected HD.

That's too bad. Really makes the picture pop on the 950 series LEDs.

I saw Samsung 950 side by side to sony XBR8, and did not like their color gamut.

As far as the 551 soundbar, I dont think its going to be that red/gold that was at CES.

Im saying if the 551s color is worse maybe it would be worthwhile to get the 550 instead?

the 551 should be a great improvement over the 550.The advances on the 551 are the latest in lcd technology
I have a samsung 81f and it shows motion at 800 lines plasma shows at 900. I believe the sansung 950 shows 900 or more
The 551 should even be better with motion plus(stropping the backlight which the 81f has) the 551 has 120 frame rate local dimming (which I find to be great on my 81f) it makes the 551 a tv I am looking forward to seeing!

The 551 is 240hz, not 120hz.

This review says the 551 does not have a USB port. If that's the case how do they plan on issuing firmware revisions?

So should it be a given, regardless of the color gamut range, that the 551 will have better color than my GV42LF?

Yes! I can tell you that led back lighting on my samsung is a great improvement and it will be on the 551.
I believe the 550 and 551 have the same panel just different back lighting and all that goes with led back lighting on the 551.(local dimming;etc)

Does cable or Directv service even transmit a wide enough color gamut to take advantage of 9X%??

The only reason I didnt get the Sanyo 52" for $1398 at walmart is because it didnt have a VGA port. I hook up my computer to play movies to the VGA port. Its much better quality than using RGB or SVideo.

I ended up buying the Sony 52" KDL-52V4100 at BestBuy for the same price $1399. It has the VGA port and the menus and options are awesome. Same menus as they use in the PlayStation and it has TV Guide built in.

I agree with you guys, but as an FYI there is no time frame on the return policy for a TV from Sams Club. I have it in writing from the manager of my local club that I just need to keep my receipt and I can return at any time.

Well with the help of "Kromo50" and others that do the same type of returns, Im sure SamsClub will at some point in time have to change their return policies like Costco recently had to.
