I've been waiting for this tv since it was announced at CES back in January, I even saved my whole tax refund check for its 'summer release'. While I havent purchased something else, my patience has more than weighed thin. I guess the only reason I havent moved forward with another purchase is that I simply dont see anything worthy enough in this price range. About the best deal I've seen is the 60" LG Plasma 60PS11 from Newegg.com for $1699 but I waited too long to get it at that price, with additional cashback bonuses.

That said I do have 2 ideas running through my head thats still related to this Vizio.

1) I've found the VF550 refurbed with a 90 day warranty for $1062 bucks with additional cashback bonuses. Im giving it 'thought' for 2 days.. and will purchase it on Friday morning if I cant come up with a great reason not too.

2) I strongly believe Vizio is purposely holding off introduction of the VF551.. so that they can just sell one set. The VF552. They are both quoted to have the same MSRP of $2199.. but the VF552 is clearly more advanced with the networking/internet features. Why even bother with a production line that has to create two seperate models priced exactly the same.

I predict that the 551 will never be made for sale in America. That any 551's being produced now will be sold to the Asian markets only. But for the US & Europe.. beginning mid November (in the middle of holiday season shopping) the V552 will be available for sale on Vizio.com for $2199 with free shipping. Or on store shelves with a street price of $1999 in Costco,Sam's Club & Walmart.

I was just thinking the same exact thing! They should just drop the 551 and go forward with the 552. Maybe by doing this (assuming there are issues concerning the 551), they can focus more on the 552 and have it ready for a mid-November release. By doing this, they can drop the 550's price down to nothing and keep 552's price point the same, and make out like bandits for the holiday sales season while getting rid of old inventory.

I know what everyone means about getting sick of having the money set aside all this time. There have been more than one occasion where I almost broke down and went with something totaly different, but had to hold myself back.
Daekwan, I'd say if you're ready for the TV now, just get it now. Since we haven't even seen these new models yet, you might be doing yourself a favor by getting one now if it turns out you don't like the new ones. Can you be sure that it will still be there waiting for you on Friday?

I just don't want to hear anything about a 553 at until maybe around mid-2011.

Sorry to keep posting, no one has responded in any of the Vizio threads...

So it sounds like Sv470XVT1a < vt470m despite what ever xvt technology is, and SV471xvt is best.

I am looking at the first two at $1000 or the third for $1100. Go ahead and get the '240 Hz'?

I was planning to replace my 2 year old Vizio GLF52 with the 551. No need for the internet features of the 552, the Panny BD60 BR player does most of that and it leaves me cold.
If the 551 does not show up, my alternate pick is the Sharp LC52700 edge lit LED. One user of this TV had his professionally calibrated and the Sharp has great ratings even without local dimming:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showp...&postcount=534

This alternate choice is the result of many hours evaluating late model sets on AVS, so far this Sharp has come out on top for me. An AVS sponsor, Cleveland Plasma, has this for about what the 551 will retail for.

So the wait continues for now

Here's what Im thinking. The price is ridiculously good for a 55" 1080p LCD. If I wait 2 whole days and that deal is still there with the 15% cashback bonus.. its the Vizio gods telling me it was meant to be. :0)

Even if the 552 or 553 does release this year or next.. its still nothing to stop me from enjoying the 550 right now. And if necessary selling the 550 in the future to upgrade to whatever 55x set I want.

One of the considerations I always take with 'big' purchases is depreciation. I have no doubt if I purchase the 550 for $1060 right now.. that I could sell it for atleast 75% of that amount a year from now.

I think the 55 inch one is right around the corner for it's release. The 240 hz 42 and 47 just hit my local BJ's, so I thinking it's coming.

My guess is they really, really want to do this one up right, ( I mean, make it comparable to Samsung's and Sony's high end sets) This strikes me eerily similiar to when they put out their 55 inch Plasma with HQV chip that got great reviews. The release on that set was painfully slow.

I think it's the same here.

and were willing to take their lumps by delaying in order to get through any bugs.

Hmm.. whats the retail/street pricing on the 42 and 47 at BJ's? I could always get the 42 for the bedroom and get the 55 later this year when it arrives.. :0)

Wonder how the Vizio XVT 55" will compare with the Sammy 8500?
Of course the dollar difference may make it a moot point. At this stage
of my AV rabies got to have condition, I can't wait for the Samsung price drop.

Nice to see Amtran will be sending along a couple tech support personnel to every home that purchases a 55".

I'm thinking of buying a second for my bathroom now…

From the Digitimes article, it seems like the only LED TV that Vizio will have in the US in 2009 is the 47 inch by the end of the year.

$1099 on the 47 inch they didn't have the price of the 42 up yet on their website. I'm heading back their again this weekend I will check out the price for the 42 but I do believe it was like $950 or so.

Both 240 Hz with UBS and all that jazz but they are not LED though.

It doesn't say they won't be shipping until 2010 but Vizio hopes to ship 2-3 million in 2010.

I received the same exact email this morning as well.
I may be holding off on the 552 at this point, but at least I know I'll be able to see the 552 in action very soon. That's comforting.

So Daekwan, is there a way that you would be able to pick up the refurbished 550 on Friday, and be able to return it next week when the 551 comes out? That is if you don't mind trucking these TVs back and forth.

People tell me contract ratio does not mean much but it is 7,000,000 to 1 for the 8500 and 2,000,000 to 1 for the Vizio. I do know on the Samsungs, the higher the ratio, the higher the price.

Buying a tv based on contrast ration specs is like buying a car because the speedometer on one goes to a higher speed than the other.

Buy the one that gives your eye the best picture and you can't go wrong.

So Daekwan, is there a way that you would be able to pick up the refurbished 550 on Friday, and be able to return it next week when the 551 comes out? That is if you don't mind trucking these TVs back and forth.

Dan I just pulled the trigger on the refurb 550 about 15 mins ago. Way too good of a deal to let go. I've already sold my current TV.. the 50" Vizio 720p plasma, the guy has already given me half the money as a deposit and the other half when he comes to pick it up this weekend. So I had to get a replacement pretty soon. My plan B.. was to just get another TV (42" or smaller) for the bedroom.. and pick up the 551 (or 552) when it became available later this year.

But honestly my interest in the 551 is gone anyways. The wait for this set is going on 10 months.. and its actually already outdated even though it hasnt been officially released yet. Just knowing the 552 with the additional networking features is also coming right behind it, for the EXACT same MSRP.. I would have waited additional months for the 552 anyways.

I guess when the 552 finally hits store shelves, sometime in the next 6 months. Then Ill have to make the decision to keep the refurb 550, or sell it.. and go for the 552. One the main reasons I purchased the 550 is because at that low price ($1062).. Im really only spend $360 bucks to upgrade. And I know I can still recoup most my investment if I decide to sell it next year. A 6 month old 550.. should still fetch $700 easy on Craigslist.

Very nice!
I wasn't even interested in HD until the 550 caught my eye in Walmart and I was blown away. I nearly bought it then and there, but talked myself into checking it out online first, and that's when I heard about the 551 so decided to wait.
I can't see how you can go wrong by owning the 550, and if you do decided to upgrade later on to the 552, a $700 price tag will take it away in a matter of hours I'm sure.

Saw the Vizio VF551XVT at BJs (Framingham, MA) this past Thursday. They had it placed as the first thing you see upon entering the store. At the time I didn't know anything about this model, but stopped and watched for a minute or two. Was stunned to see a LED set under $2K. This going to have to put price pressure on the other players.

Per BJ's webpage, all they are showing is the 550 ($1,499.99), not the new 551:

And vizio.com doesn't yet show the 551 in its products listing.

I can't see how you can go wrong by owning the 550, and if you do decided to upgrade later on to the 552, a $700 price tag will take it away in a matter of hours I'm sure.

I've actually never seen the 550 in person. But the positive results are absolutely glowing about this set on every single review site I've came across. That and my previous history with Vizio (2 amazing Plasmas that I've owned since 2005 with no problems) is reason alone for me to be a repeat customer.

I'll definitely have my eye out when the 552 releases though. 240hz, LED backlight and the network features with the supercool bluetooth remote are definitely reason enough for me to upgrade again.

A quick indicator of what the whether he saw the 551 or not would be the price. If the TV was priced at $1499 then you know it was 550. If the TV was priced at $1999 then theres an excellent chance it was the 551.

I honestly doubt it though, BJ's isnt where I'd expect to show up first. Either Costco or Sams Club because they are bigger retailers.

Dag. That's only about and hour and a half away from me I'm tempted to make a trip down there to see what I find.
