First of all, he's talking about the wrong model TV. This is the 670U thread. Secondly, what TV is perfectly reliable? Panasonic is the best, but they still have problems. I also see you've been trolling another Toshiba forum with your theories, yet you favor Samsung? Samsung makes beautiful TVs, but they're NOT reliable.

I was having more and more instances of the garbled audio and contacted my dealer (Huppin's Hi-Fi), who many of you may know by their on-line company OneCall.com. After a week, the manager contacted me and told me the warranty company had no record of my $300 - 5 year warranty and the main board was going to be about 2 months out. He said they could probably get the warranty issue squared away, but it would take awhile. He offered me other options and said they would eat the TV and give me full credit toward a new one of my choice. I took the new option.

Being the end of the model season, prices are down....but so is stock and availability. I am limited to the 46" range and I narrowed the field to the Samsung C8000, Sony KDL-46NX810 (both of which fell below what I had paid for the Toshiba) and the LG 47LX9500, which has fallen in $$$, but would still cost me more. I got the Samsung (the last 46"er); set it up and it looked good, but different; turned it off and that was the end. I turned it on and audio only....the back light was toast...no glow, no nothing. Packed it up and went back. The manager steered me away from the Sony and said he didn't feel it was equal to either the Toshiba, or Sammie. He gave other options, but I went with the LG 47LX9500 and spent another $490 inc. tax. It was also the last one of these. Went to pick it up and the warehouse guy said there was none. Now I didn't know what the hell to do. Luckily the warehouse manager found it and I have a TV. Just hope I enjoy it as much as I did my SV46670U.

Good luck to you owners and keep enjoying!
wow that is a stand up company i wouldnt have expected to do all that for you , i will sure keep them in mine when i buy my tv

Now I'm having HDMI port 1 & 2 issues. Entire screen flashes purple whenever the resolution changes on the PS3. Doesn't happen on ports 3 & 4 at all.

Does anyone have service menu info? How to enter it, and what the options are? I'd like to make the picture just a few pixels larger all the way around as there is sometimes a "line" around the screen. Not referring to the signal info at the top of some channels.

You keep telling about all these problems with your TV, yet you don't get Toshiba to fix it. Your TV is brand new and it sounds like a total piece of junk. Are you sure you didn't purchase a refurbished model? Demand a fix or get a replacement.

It's not fixed because the repair shop says there's nothing more they can do because they've already replaced the main board. Toshiba says there's nothing more they can do because the shop says there's nothing they can do.

Toshiba won't replace it with something else for you or give you a refund?

They wouldn't give him a refund, but of course he's entitled to have his TV fixed. I've never heard of a company saying their hands were tied because a repair was already attempted. Something doesn't sound right. Toshiba offered to give me a new TV, and I didn't even want one. (They don't sell 670Us anymore, so it would have been another model.)

/waits for the call to setup appointment for repair.

I agree and disagree with you

First off..I agree Samsung makes beautiful TV's that are on the cutting edge in regard to feature set, picture quality and design

as for not being reliable?...where are you getting that information?

the latest I have seen in 4-5 % failure rate
Seriously...even at a 7-8% failure rate..if it were true...would not make me a buy a TV with a lesser quality picture but had a 2% failure rate

I have bought 6 Samsung's in the last 7 years..only the first one had any issues

Anymore..I would suggest buying an extended warranty...especially if you are buying a higher end model with a high feature set

The way prices are coming down and the way they market these
They are like computers...the companies don't keep the large parts inventories and it could be cheaper to buy a new TV than have one fixed many times

It's been months since I've been here. Just wanted to drop a few words saying how happy I am with my 55inch set after 1.5 years. My GF and I have watched lots and lots of HBO and bluray films on this TV in a near dark theater lighting and the TV is still sold, inky back and darn uniform across the screen.

I'm looking into getting something bigger. I wish Toshiba made this in 65 inches, I would've been on it in a heart beat.
I'm thinking of selling this and go to the new sony XBR65HX929.

Good job Toshiba ...

They replaced the main board, no more issues at all. All the pros remain none of the cons are there now.

I haven't done a statistical analysis. Is that data from Consumer Reports? My point was that Samsung isn't any more reliable than Toshiba, and neither brand is as reliable as Panasonic. Samsungs have plenty of problems. I'm not just talking about total failures. Clouding, backlight bleeding, etc., is very common. I'm not anti-Samsung, it's just the truth. I had to go through 2 Samsungs before getting one that I was satisfied with, and even that had an issue with screen tearing which Samsung eventually resolved with a firmware fix. I really wanted to buy a LN55A950, but by the time price dropped within my reach, they were sold out. Due to the problems I went through with my first Samsungs, I didn't feel comfortable ordering online, in case it needed to be exchanged.

I have this set and an insignia blu-ray player. To get proper 24 pulldown should I set the tv film stabilization to "standard" and 1080/24 to "on" in the player menu?

Edit* I think my real question is, did they ever fix the video drop while watching blu-ray content?

In my experience its the static gamma introduces the artifacts, particularly when increasing color brightness.

My mom is the new owner of the Toshiba set now. This lovely TV was the best TV I have owned yet.

Reviving this thread for a second, sorry. Does anyone have the 6.1.46.0 firmware they can give me? Or a link to where I can download it.

I have the original firmware since 2009.

But here are the settings if your still interested.

Backlight 50
Contrast 60
Brightness 14
Color -4
Tint 12
Sharpness 0

Advance Picture Settings

Colormaster On

Red 0 +9 -2
Green +1 +9 +1
Blue -2 +6 -1
Yellow 0 +3 +1
Magenta 0 +10 -3
Cyan 0 +6 +3

Color Temp 2
DynaLight On
Dynamic Contrast 0
Static Gamma +3
Noise Reduction Off
Resolution+ Off
ClearScan 240 Off
Film Stabilization Smooth

Explanation for some settings.

Backlight settings for better clarity.
Contrast and Brightness for better blacks and whites, detail in whites and shadow detail
Color settings are what they are because I discovered that the lower color setting got rid of clipping which destroyed detail and sharpness. A setting above -1 caused clipping.

CMS found out that your best bet is to avoid increasing color brightness if your using Expert Mode. Benefit is, no negative effects on blacks and better whites. Brightness increases only if there's no choice.

Color Temp is default 2, with no adjustments. I don't have a meter and gray scale can't be done by eye. If done incorrectly you lose detail.

ClearScan is Off because it reduces light output and shuts off 120hz.

I have to say this HDTV when you figure out how its features work and what should be on and off. The picture quality becomes jaw dropping, the level of detail I'm seeing with these settings from games to blu-ray and Directv is way more than what I thought I could get out of this TV.
