Adjusting the lip sync option on the system menu DOES NOT solve the problem anyway. Each channel seems to be different. Some are spot on while others are lagging. When I adjusted the setting to 0, some got better but others got worse.

I have not tried other cables as I am only using an HDMI. I will try component next and see if that clears it up.

I am calling Sears on Monday to see what their thoughts are. Maybe I can get a free calibration out of them. I am NOT happy with this issue.

I'm sorry to keep posting on this same issue in this owners thread but it seems to be the biggest issue with this TV.

I spoke with Comsast and they think it is an issue with their box. I'm exchanging it today. I am also told that Comcast supplies a 60hz HDMI cable. I am going to best buy to try their (RIPOFF) Monster HDMI rated for 120hz.

I realize this issue exists in most sets out there but I need to rule out all possible factors in the equation. I'll be sure to report back on any findings.

Yes. And the sound through my receiver does not match the sound through my TV speakers. I am connected from TV to receiver via an optical cable.

I also got in on this deal thru sears for the 55LH40. Overall, the picture quality (untweaked as of yet) is no where near as good as my Panasonic 5 year old RPTV 53x54. I will play with it over the coming weeks and report back. I'm not a videophile but do appreciate a clear picture and accurate colors and I have neither so far. It's not too bad but nothing like the Panny. Hopefully I can tweak it to our liking.

I too had the lip sync issue but after doing the aformentioned change from 20 to 0, it no longer exists on any channel I can find. I am directly connected via HDMI to a Comcast HD DVR. I will be tying in my Onkyo 606 receiver to it over the coming days and will report back if I have any sync issues with it.

Firmware shows 4.050
Update version is 0.00.0
File is LG6000

I find it very interesting that I have a much later firmware than most people here and that I still have the sync issues. Incidentally, I spoke to my father who owns a 47LH40 and he doesn't report any sync issues with his UVerse DVR. He has an older unit.

I hope to call LG today. I am thinking of taking this unit back and putting down a few hundred more for a Samsung LED. I love the picture quality, but I really want a connected unit.

Why did you quote me? I paid $1,250 (after taxes) for my 55LH40.
Currently at Fry's, the 55LH55 is $1,839.00.
That is far more than a $100.

I actually preferred the picture quality of the LH40 over the LH55. It was probably the settings on the TV but it looked pretty crappy at Best Buy. They were sitting side x side and the LH40 had much better color.

Didn't you return the tv anyway?

What are you looking for the receiver to do?

If I didn't already have a good setup, I would look at the new soundbars. Polk Audio has a pretty nice one. It's all in one with an easy setup and no wires to run.

What’s new in the HDMI 1.3 Specification?
.........
* Lip Sync: Because consumer electronics devices are using increasingly complex digital signal processing to enhance the clarity and detail of the content, synchronization of video and audio in user devices has become a greater challenge and could potentially require complex end-user adjustments. HDMI 1.3 incorporates automatic audio synching capabilities that allows devices to perform this synchronization automatically with total accuracy.

Relax my friend, it wasn't an insult . Fry's had a 1-day sale on the LH55 for $1299. I'm glad you got the model you wanted, so did I ...

Not taken as an insult...just didn't understand. The LH55 was on top of my list going into the box stores. Reviews all seem positive for it. They just didn't have it set up correctly at Best Buy and didn't have one at Sears. I guess that turned me off. They also broadcast their feed in 720i, which doesn't do the sets justice.

Best Buy sells the 55LH55 for $2,600.
That's exactly 2x the price of what Fry's had it for...wow!

It seems any more that posted prices don't have much to do with expected selling price. While that favors folks like us that do our homework, it must be confusing as hell for J6P out looking for a TV because I don't think that BB really expects to get $2600 for the 55LH55.

My experience at Fry's was strange. The set is marked at $1899, as I looked over his shoulder it came up at $1724 in the POS, he puched a few buttons and it was $1399. I told him I was interested but needed my wife's SUV to pick it up (that's a big box!) and left. He called my cell and said if I could get back before closing, it was $1299 on a 1-day sale. It's a jungle out there...

If it makes a difference, Bestbuy matched NewEggs price of $783 for the 42lh40. Yes I had to pay sales tax, but I felt better buying it locally in case there were any problems.

[quote=va_trial;17306748]I purchased the 47LH40 about 2 weeks ago, and just turned it on 2 days ago only to see horrible lip sync (I have FIOS HD) and stuttering. I called about the lip sync, and the folks at LG were very efficient. They told me that they have a firmware fix for it, but will have to send a tech to my home. They are supposed to call me in under 72 hours to schedule the tech. /QUOTE]

UPDATE:
Well, so much for customer service at LG. After two more calls back to LG asking when I could expect the service, I was given to a supervisor who told me that my information had never been properly logged into the system, and it would take 7-10 DAYS for someone to get back to me. Well... that's just too long. My 30 day return policy to best buy is up this weekend, so I've got to take it down from my wall, box it up and return it.

PLUS, when I bought this TV, I asked the people at BestBuy and (because I wasn't convinced they knew what they were talking about) I called the LG technical service hotline to ask if I could play Divx movies on this TV. I was told that I could. But today, I'm told that I cannot.

I am one disappointed customer. Can anyone recommend a better TV?

This was posted on BB website and a few people have tried it with success to fix the lip syncing.

"1) press and hold the menu button on the side of the TV then press and hold the menu button on the remote until the display says "Enter Password"

2) enter four zeros from the remote control to get past the password screen (you should now see an "IN START" menu with all kinds of information listed)

4) look at the lower left corner where there should be a numbered menu -- menu option 4 should say "System"

5) use the down arrow until the word "System" is highlighted (pressing the number '4' will not take you down the menu) and press the enter key (you should now be on the System menu near the middle of the screen)

6) press the down arrow to option 9 "Lip Sync Adjust" and then press the left arrow to adjust the value to zero (mine was set to 20 from the factory)

7) press the return key to get out of the menu and bingo, you're done!"

"

Let me know how it works out for you. I am thinking of purchasing this today.

I've tried this so many times... I try every evening I get home.... I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I was never able to get to the password screen.

I'm stressing today. I like the picture on this TV. The non-HD channels are the best that I have ever seen on a flat-screen TV. But I feel that the customer service sux, and the XMB bar on the Sony is more user friendly.

When I bought mine at best buy, I did a google search for a best buy coupon, and found a 10% off that I used, bringing the TV price down to $989.

I am not sure what you are doing wrong either. I just spoke to LG (2.5 minutes before I had a person on the other end - and she spoke clear english). She said there is a software update that exists to fix this exact problem. She needed my serial number, software version, cable box info and address. They will either send a disc to update the software or send someone out.

Anyway, to get my software version, she told me how to access the hidden menu. She said to press them at the same time and hold them down for 3-4 seconds. The password screen will pop up on its own (no need to let go).

Again, hold both menu buttons at the same time until the password screen pops up. I just did it and it worked first try. Adjusting the lip sync setting did not fix the problem. Some channels are still very out of sync.

This Lipsync problem, is only if you are using the speaker on the TV, correct? If I am using audio through a receiver it shouldn't have it, right?

Nope...it affects the sound on the receiver too. I have my receiver running off the Optical Out on the back of the TV.

I always use the surround system so it wouldn't be an issue if that was case.
