After talking to a repair guy today, he said that he is seeing the sets lasting 2-5 years. I asked if he recommended any brand, what he said is just don't spend extra for a certain brand. If you are lucky, he said you can get 10 years out of one. Something to keep in mind when looking at prices.

The Samsung model you have listed is missing a number. However, of the ones you have listed I'd still choose the Sony Z5100. Go to Amazon.com and look at the customer reviews (especially the one from Allen West aka as westa6969 on this forum) regarding the 40" Z5100. I'm sure the 46" would perform the same.

I second the Z5100... simply jaw dropping.

Sony 52W4100 LCD, LG 42PG25 Plasma, Sony 46Z5100 LCD, Samsung 19D4000 LED, Samsung BD-P 2550, PS3 Slim, Sony BDP-S350, LG BD570, Panny DMR-EZ485V

you can get 10 years outa one BUT at what cost? Purchase the 5 yr extd warranty and after the fifth year, it breaks, by the latest tech again with the warranty and let the cycle begin.
we are an authorized 20 brand servicenter and retailer...we know.
thanks, alan in cc,tx

Since you asked about sammy versus Sony, what might also decide is your room setup. sammy are very reflective with the clear screen where the sony's with the matte do better with lighting. If you see the 2 models next to each other, try to look at them with the ceiling lights reflecting off and you will see a difference.
I like the sammy pictures better because of the screen screen, but I went with Sony in the past because of the reflection issues..

You really can't go wrong with either one, so it just comes down to which one YOU think looks better.
