I'll try to post later.. A lot of the difference was just in taking the media box out of the equation. And I tried what someone else suggested, to put the brightness low and the backlight high (they might be at 30 and 70-ish for me). Blacks are much much deeper, though the image gets a little dark. Colors still a little off. But I had an overly bright, fuzzy image before, and now it feels dialed much closer to where it should be, with more sharpness and contrast..

Mostly I'm just a convert to tinkering with picture settings.. Someday maybe someone can explain why TVs come with so many options, bad pre-sets, and just enough rope for users to hang themselves..

Anyone have any ideas for a silent fan replacement on an LHX? Mine has decided to get louder over the years, even though it was cleaned out. It isn't quite objectionable yet, but it is obvious when the set is running.

Thinking about whether to pick up a new short-term TV, probably a Vizio E-Series, to tide me over until OLED/HDR sets come down in price. Given this TV is five years old, but also FALD and a higher-end model, would a 2015 E-Series (1080p) actually be much of an upgrade over this set?

I have been trying to update my TVs firmware and seems that my USB input must be shot as I get the update screen and it shows no files. I have tried two USB sticks. I know files are good as I have sent them to others on here and they used them. Oh well I guess...not sure what else to do.

Have bought 2 of these from these people. Keep one as a spare. Gifted the other.

What you may want to try first is, the take the back cover off, check all the connections to the board are tight.
We also found, the screws holding the power supply board to chassis were very loose. You may just have to tighten these to get the grounds back.

I did check for tightness of the board per your previous post. nothing was loose.

is it very likely that it is the power supply board vs the main board?

shopjimmys has a used power supply board but no main board. I am not much of a trouble shooter. the power supply board did show the varies low voltage output pins as ok (ie the 5v and 12v and 24 v were as marked)

thanks, greg

The 2 boards I got were also used, but certified good with 180 day guarantee. So originally swapped out mine to test. Didn't bother re-swapping, but then wife's LHX starting showing the signs you say were happening to yours, so swapped mine now, for hers. Both working OK.
Also tightened all the screws on the PS Board re heat sinks. (2 finger rule)
To bad you weren't closer. We could have tried it with the spare PS Board I have. Keep the spare since I have 2 55LHXs.
Did you try putting the Main Board Part number on Google?

yes there are some main boards for sale. is it likely that I need one? i guess i will buy a power supply board first, which is more likely the problem, i assume.

All the issues myself and another Member had, were related to the PS Board.

Anyone know of a common cause for snow on hdmi5 after the set has been running for an hour or two? Not coming from the source and tried multiple cables, no luck.

I would take the back cover off. 2 finger tighten ALL screws, check all connectors are seated properly and while there, blow out the little vent fan.

(If still using the Media Box, bypass it and go straight into HDMI 5. Note, HDMI 5 will have to be selected for the Source or the set will keep looking for the MB!)
