Hey all,

I have a 46z4100 and when i smell the vent holes on the top right, it smells what i would consider a cent of burning plastic?

Is this normal?

I've had no issues at all with the tv, just noticed it when moving the tv. No vents are covered or obstructed.

Also my tv is about a year old.

It's just the plastic heating up. Smell any hot running electronic device after it's been on a while. None of them smell good. Take a whiff near the vents on a high powered audio receiver after it's been on a good half hour or more. They stink bad. LOL!

As long as you're TV isn't smoking I wouldn't be worried.

Of course, I got it modified with the TK-427, which cheeks it up another, maybe, 3 or 4 quads per channel.

My room is about 12 x 12. If i leave my tv on for like 5 hours and walk out and back in the room, the room smells of burning plastic. It's not just smelling directly in the vents.

my sony 32xbr6 did this when it was brand new for a few weeks, it stopped stinking up the room though but yeah if i smell the vents at the top sure it smells like it, completely normal

If you're a gamer or interested in using an LCD TV as a primary monitor take a look at my thread on Input Lag

then it should still be under warranty. if you are concerned about it, call and get it looked at. you paid good money for the tv and it came with a warranty: USE IT.

Actually, I would try to avoid smelling it-- if it really is a normal smell, it is probably due to outgassing of the plastics and other components. Just like a new car or new shower curtain. But- those fumes can be bad for you so I wouldnt stick my nose right in there until the outgassing has slowed down.
