I don't see a Series 4 or 5 in your list and I have never seen Samsung mention a C630. /Dan

They're having terrific sales at BB with a free Blue Ray player. I'm looking at the UN40B6000 for $1200. The only thing holding me back is its 120Hz.

Thanks for any feedback.

@CES
I saw 120Hz side by side with a 240Hz playing video with lots of motion and the 240Hz had noticeably better detail. I'm holding out for the 240hz set

Also, am I correct in assuming that the c7000's do not have "Seamless Dimming"?

Unfortunately right now we all assume :-). I would say: Yes, the 8000 series is the only one with the Seamless Local Dimming technology. And i would say, that the 8000 series will be released in the first half of the year. But both speculation :-)

Looks like the C630 and C650 series has popped up on Amazon and Vanns for pre-order with Amazon stating a Feb. 26th release date. Prices look to be a good deal lower than the current B series as well.

Yep, $150 cheaper than the current price for the 46b630 at Wally World.
Now I see why Sears lists the 46b630 as a close-out item.

Side and edge-lit are the same term. Samsung never released or showcased any back-lit LED.

Well the $2100 for the 55inch C650 isn't too bad. I more interested in the C8500 series myself. Hopefully the 65inch C850 will be available for around $3500 when it releases since that is the budget I have to work with for a new TV.

By "never" you mean not at this years CES, as last years 8500 was back-lit LED.

To answer the original question, Samsung will not be producing any more back-lit, local dimming LCD sets. They will be using edge-lit panels with local dimming. At least, that's what I gather from everything I've read and heard.

Is back-lit/local dimming better?

Why is Samsung not making it anymore?

Who else is doing it?

Yes, back-lit offers more precise brightness/blacks.

Samsung and Sharp had a patent dispute, however I read that they resolved it but haven't seen what the stipulations of the arrangement is.

I was debating on buying an B8500, but seeing the new models coming gives me pause.

They claim that they can realize the same effect with EDGE Lit. Probably they found a way through a light guide system to realize Local dimming even with LEDs in the frame. As there are not much information yet we just have to wait.

Both Amazon and Vann's have the c7000 as having Skype as a feature. I thought that only LG and Panasonic had announced Skype functionality at CES? If this is really the case Samsung might still be in the running, plus I found on Samsung's website that the remote from the c9000 will be available for the c7000 and c8000 as an optional buy.

Check out this video on YouTube. Look at around 1:57 into the video and it shows the HDMI port.

Glad to see the C7000 series nearing a release. I plan on purchasing a new TV around this time next year and Samsung's LED sets are high up on my want list. I am mostly interested in the 65inch C8000, since I think the 8000 series will be the only one to go that big. Hopefully it will be at a price I can afford when I a ready to buy.
