I think you mistyped the last couple there.

The question I have is, after the great reviews their backlit 8500 has gotten, are they making a backward move in image quality by going with edgelighting for all their models?

Alright, let's post some pictures.
Overall, I still don't like ToC and a four-legged stand. But whatever.

C750

C6500

C7000 (features Touch of Color design in "Mystic Earth.")

C8000

C9000

and don't forget about that remote for the last one... Not something you would want to lose or drop... Looks like it will cost you a lot of $$$ to replace...

I forgot about this post... So I'm reposted the pics I found...

I came across some pics of the C9000 but I'm not sure if they were posted here yet.. If not take a look of the location of the ports...

HDMI on the side

Pull out controls

More HDMI and other ports located under the stand.

And one more pic from the side... 2 ports and it looks to be a slot.

The link below would lead me to believe that there will be a 60" available in the 6500, 7000 and 8000 series:

http://www.fvdshop.be/televisie-vide...-c-215_24.html

9000 Series: 46”, 55”
8000 Series: 32”, 40”, 46”, 55”, 60”, 65”
7000 Series: 40”, 46”, 55”, 60”, 65”
6500 Series: 32”, 37”, 40”, 46”, 55”, 60”, 65”

The 60" size would be about right for my setup ... can anyone provide additional confirmation on the 60" sets?

I thought the only 60" panels produced are from Sharp (specifically UV2A)... so it can't be, right?
There were many sources claiming the above sizes all but 60".

I wouldn't commend accuracy from an online store not in english too

Besides the design which you can see already there will be 3D and more Internet functionalty.
Nothing more confirmed yet, probably it will have some kind of local dimming.

Are any of these models meant to be an upgrade from the 55B8500?

Will the 37-inchers C630 and C650 be 1080p? I'm guessing they should because the B530 was also 1080p.

Have a size limitation of 37 inches because of the furniture setup.

I will always reserve judgment based on the panel itself. Last year's CMO were a COMPLETE bust punctuated in blue. Maybe this year's CMO panels will be better.

Although these ultra-thin edge-lit screens are unappealing to me. I value picture quality too much. The larger the panel the more difficult to get a uniform screen with adequate off-axis viewing performance. And I doubt the diffusers have been improved that much. I guess we'll see.

I also hope that CCFL hasn't gone the way of the dodo.

Don't hold out too much hope. There's huge manufacturing, economic and environmental reasons why LEDs will completely replace CCFLs in display devices, which have been well documented elsewhere. I also expect that plasma will be replaced as well. To be competitive with LEDs you'd need some new technology like SED, OLED, carbon nanotubes, or maybe something we haven't heard of yet.

It's not just display devices. It will be normal lighting as well. Last fall I upgraded my outdoor lighting to LEDs. The strength and quality of the light improved and the entire system with 4 flood zones uses 5 watts. That's right, FIVE watts.

I'm all for saving energy, but it's a misnomer that LED LCD uses less energy than CCFL. Take a look at CNet's numbers; you'll see fairly equal power consumption per sq. inch. Current WCG-CCFL is just as miserly as LED.

I didn't claim this. My efficiency example was for house lighting. There is a long list of other advantages relevant to TVs.

But the basic science is that LEDs are the most efficient form of lighting currently in wide use. Of course in a particular application energy use is due to a variety of causes, so I can't comment on CNET's results.

Anyone else notice that the Samsung website has the 8 series taken down off their LED product lineup? One can only hope to pick up a 46" 8500 for a sane price as the stores clear inventory for the 2010 models. :-)
