Hi everyone.. I've been a member for awhile but have never bought a HDTV before. I've read many many posts on the subjects and would like your honest opinions on advice between a few models:

Vizio VF550M 55" 1080P 120HZ
Vizio XVT472SV 47" 1080P 240HZ

a) are Vizio LCD's in this size good TV's?
b) how much calibration is needed out-of-box to get a decent picture?

Thx for your help... I'm really completely open to brand and think I need between a 47 and 55" set for my room (20x24).. but if this is wrong.. please let me know as well.

Thx!

Unless that vizio 240hz is less than 1500 I don't know why that would be considered. Maybe it is, I don't like Vizio

I'm not that familar with the Vizio units, but the general rule is that bigger is better. Thus, go for the 55". Don't worry too much about 240hz -- 120hz is good enough for most uses.

thx NatDad.. yes. the 47" @ 240 is about $200 less than $1500 and about $150 less than the 55" @ 120.

HDLantern: seems to be what I've been reading.. 120 vs 240 isn't that big of a diff.. but figured that might apply more to folks considering an upgrade.. since I'm purchasing my first new set, I don't want to be too far behind the curve out of the box (I know I will be behind the curve the moment I purchase it anyway.. but you know what I mean).

Appreciate the advice.. would love to hear for others as well!

I will agree with this. As long as its a 120hz you can get a great picture most likely. But like I said, there are places blowin out 52+ 120hz TVs like crazy now.
