Yeah 3d right now is way too gimicky and the glasses makes me nauseous. Although a Taiwanese company managed to produce 3d images without glasses (holograms) using a glass pyramid. You can walk around the pyramid too. Very cool:

More EX700/701 owners! Keep updating your thoughts and settings that work for you.

To answer some of the questions - there are no bleeding or clouding issues that I've noticed.

The EX700 has the dark gunmetal bottom strip, I'm not sure if the 701 shares this. At first I thought it would stand out and it would annoy me - but it's grown on me and now I rarely notice it.

We game a lot, and I've been playing Modern Warfare 2 on my PS3 and I haven't had ANY issues at all. I haven't played around with the settings, so I don't even think it's in "Game Mode" or if that's even an option. Even with the Motionflow on High it looks super crisp.

Alrighty, so I've decided I want a 46" EX700 (probably the 701 from Costco). I wanted an XBR8 but it's more than I want to spend. What I need, though, is to be convinced as to why I should buy the EX700 when I could get a 50" Samsung B650 plasma, which Consumer Reports rates as better than all the LCDs, for 30% less (or even maybe look at the new Panasonics). The one thing that concerns me about plasma is that I don't like to have to make a room dark all the time to watch TV. Other than that, though, why should I spend more on the Sony LCD? Since this is the LCD forum, I know you'll have the right answers. ;-) Thanks.

To add a little context, I'm coming from a Sony HD CRT (a 32" non-XBR) that has a truly amazing HD picture. One of the things that's bothered me about ALL the TVs I've looked at in stores is that, while I can put my eyeball up to the CRT and see every pixel with not a speck of blur or bleeding, I've yet to see anything close in an LCD or a Plasma. Which technology should get me closest to my CRT?

Thanks.

Is the bottom strip actually metal/metallic or is it plastic colored like gunmetal? The EX400/500 are actually just a gray shiny plastic.

I think this question need to be asked in the plasma section

I think it is the exact same as the EX500. I didn't really touch it.

If you are looking for TV now, i would go w/ the one from costco, best price and extra year on the warranty. Go with LCD over plasma IF, you have bright room or lots of reflection (LCD's mate finish blocks reflections), if you want a thin display that you can mount on the wall like a picture frame, if you concerned about heat or usage cost or if you want to play with internet apps (don't know of any plasmas that offer this).

If you put this TV up against the plasma's, i think the blacks are as good or better then a plasma. I read and agreed with someone the other day, you can not tell where the dead black of a image in HD ends and say the bars on the top and bottom of a incorrectly formated 16:9 movie begins.

Well the Samsung 650 plasma is out since I gotta have my picture in picture.

Can someone with the EX700 or 701 tell me how the PIP works? On my old Sony the 2 pics are next to each other and you can control the size with the joystick on the remote. And you can have one of the pics be HD. Does it still work this way? Thanks.

I don't think picture in picture works with HDMI so I couldn't tell you

Plasmas run quite hot and image retention is still a problem. My brother has a Samsung plasma, and every time we play video games on it, we get image retention when we switch back to TV.

Talk like that will get you banished to the plasma burn-in thread where you will be labeled a heretic and flamed to death by plasma fan boys.

I went to Best Buy today and saw the 60EX700. It was table mounted so I could see all around it. I saw a VGA, bunch of HDMI, 2 rear mounted component, and a side mounted composite.

Damn sexy TV. Love the matte screen. They had a blu ray concert playing which was a bad choice. The low light concert caused the camera video to look grainy. I was SO tempted to just throw that on the best buy card and take it home. Two things stopped me. One Best Buy wants the same price as the Sony Style store which means it is a rip off, two I just can't be happy with only 60". I need to wait for the HD led projos.

We flame the LCD/LEDs much worse in the plasma threads

I have a friend looking at this tv and from what I've seen it's a very nice set.
Any problems with light consistency with the edge lit leds?

Mike

Does anyone actually own the EX700? Is it a good set and are you happy with the performance?

I am going to give the 40ex700 a try I think. The price was really good on the Samsung 6000 but I am hoping this set may be a little better. Only time will tell. Jon

Order online then from independent dealers.

yeah, for the few seconds you're switching from one input to another, you'll see the retention but afterwards, you don't notice it so what's the issue?

Hi all

New here as you can tell, I am looking at two Sony TVs the KDL60EX700 and the KDL60NX800 and am trying and have noticed a weigh difference of 34 pounds.
The NX weighs is 34 pounds more than the EX. What is the difference.

60NX - 94.5 pounds

60EX - 60.32 pounds

Does anyone know why?

There is a significant cost difference as well EX $2,999.99 and the NX $3,499.99 but they are both 60 inches.

Thanks

Dave

Don't own it, but the 60" was on display at my best buy here in TN. The remote is kinda weird. It is curved and they have a second power button on the rear of the remote. Imagine a normal boxy rectangular remote. Now imagine it curved up on the left and right sides.

Picture looked pretty horrendous BUT it was in a store demo mode, and Sony doesn't allow menu adjustments once the remote is in that mode on this particular model (which was kind of strange). This bad boy was thin though. I'd say thinner than the B Series LED TVs from Samsung but not by much.
