yeah. that same cable also works fine if i run the directv directly to the tv. i'm totally stumped. the more i think about it, it would most likely have to be my receiver, but i just can't figure it out.

Ok well I just got it working. You were right it was the receiver. For some reason the HDMI inputs got switched around when I moved the TVs, so I just had to change everything around on the receiver's menu. Time to enjoy this TV now!

Just a heads up for anyone looking to buy a 60" ex700. Sony just gave me a brand new one to replace my old xbr1 model. But I would rather have cash than a new TV right now so I just put this one on Ebay. It's brand new in the box and a good deal if your going to buy one anyway.

Yes I started with them and the 60 must be alot Diff than the 52, because that is one bad looking picture.

Some one must be tweaking that is respectable?

will be getting a 52" KDL EX700 in a few weeks... 2 weeks to ship.

It will be the first 1080p tv in the house.. not to mention an LCD (instead of projection LCD, hint hint KDFail)

I already know it's gonna blow me away (no, not 3D porn).
Looking forward to the slim mount (sanus LL-11) install. I'll perhaps do before/after photos of the tv viewing area but probably not.

I'm definitely going to try those settings and play a couple HD sources.

What I'm really looking forward to is the VOD services. I'll be running cat5e/6 to the the rear of the TV so I don't have to mess around with wireless.
Apparently Amazon HD content looks great but Netflix is poor(er)?

On a side note, do movies output 5.1 audio?

It depends on the service. Netflix is just starting to roll out 5.1 on some of their HD titles.

Hehe, sorry, was my lame attempt at humor however the settings for 52 IMHO do not work for my 60. I have two Bluray calibration discs on the way (Spears and Muncil and DVE) and will do my best to get it done after their receipt and post my results which may suck too. :-p Sorry CCTVECH, I did not mean any disrespect to you and apologize if I offended you. JP

P.S. I have a monitor calibration device for PC's and never thought about using it til now. Has anyone else attempted calibration with a PC monitor calibration kit?

No problem. I haven't received my EX700 yet so I have no idea how well those settings work. I just found them while web searching. Besides, I never would use published calibration settings as anything more than a starting point myself. In fact, I doubt if I would use Warm2 and their white balance settings as even a starting point. The rest of their settings appeared to work well on my neighbor's 52EX700.

Be seeing you!

Has anybody had success getting the Internet-enabled apps on the TV to output audio over the optical output? I can't seem to get it to work. Speaker is set to Audio System and Audio Out is set to Fixed but nothing ever plays through the receiver. I checked through the manual and didn't find anything specifically about this so I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if this TV doesn't support Internet audio going through the optical output.

Thanks

If you mean new firmware, you can't force an update from the TV menus. Though you can use the 'refresh internet content' option, when available, to make sure you have the latest content providers.

For firmware, you have 2 options.

1) Download firmware from the Sony support web to a USB dongle and load to your TV. The web site updates appear to lag the automated updates by a few days or more.

or

2) Enable automatic updates in your TV menu and leave the TV off. It will eventually download the new firmware.

I have the update loaded on usb but how do you get the tv to find it? i can go into the usb under pics videos and music but the update doesn't show up there obviously. must be missing something simple here.

Yes, I'm able to do so with my NX700. YouTube videos, e.g., shows up on my receiver as PCM.

What settings did you need to use? Is there any chance the NX would support this while the EX wouldn't?

Either setting works for me (TV Speakers or Audio System). With TV speakers, I hear it on both the TV and receiver speakers. With Audio System, then it's just the receiver system. Audio out is fixed.

I just returned my 2nd 40EX700 set to the sony store today. The corner brightness, flashlighting issue is a deal killer. So much so, I had to take an unnecessary 20% restocking fee because I did not keep the original packaging! UGH!

The flashlighting is very apparent when viewing in dark conditions, especially during a dark scene in a movie with the lights off, it is very distracting. I did not think my TV was plagued with these issues until I viewed it under such conditions, otherwise I was very happy with the picture quality until normal or low ambient lighting conditions.

It's up to you and your viewing habits whether this will be a deal breaker, but I do want to forewarn others on this forum considering an edge-lit. Contrary to what some other's have said all of the edge-lit TVs in the store exhibited flashlighting under dark lighting conditions, I would not bother with purchasing in the hopes of finding a holy grail set with no issues. I will be waiting patiently until next year's model, 2010 is not the year for LCD tv's.

My settings were: backlight 3, brightness 49, picture 96, all enhancements off

Anyone know if sony is releasing a fully backlit LED in a 40" ?
