Hey there, I'm obviously new here, and I searched to make sure this hasn't been asked before, I just need some help with setting up my Blu Ray player (I'm not the best with technology, haha)
Ok, so I have a Vizio HDTV (the model is VA19L10T) and a Philips BDP5010 Blu Ray player. I have tried connecting the player with the HDMI cable and audio cable, but the screen only says "No Signal".
I also tried to connect the player using Component Video, the picture shows up, however it is in black and white and there is no sound.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong or have any tips/advice/things I can try? Again, I'm not the most swift with technology. Thanks in advance

I guess you tried both HDMI Inputs?
The TV is a 1080i, did you set the output on the Blu-Ray to 1080i and not 1080p? (too high for this Set)

When using HDMI, you won't need the Audio-cable.
Does regular TV reception work? Hook up some Rabbit-ears and tell us if you got a Picture and Sound.

Thanks,
Yeah, I've tried both HDMI inputs, and in both all I get is a blue screen and a "No Signal" message. I tried changing the output to 1080i when it was connected through Component video, but nothing changed.
Regular TV reception is working fine, both picture and sound. Anything else I should try??

Have you studied the cable connection diagrams in the owners manuals for both units?
And are you selecting the correct input on the TV's menu ?

OK, I got it to work finally through the component hookup, it still won't work with HDMI connection. I've tried a few different inputs on the TV when its hooked up with just the HDMI cable, but I still get the No Signal message on all of them. In the morning I might try my roommate's HDMI cable and see if its the cable itself that is the problem... I feel like I've read the owner's manuals for both the TV and Blu Ray player about a thousand times haha

have you tried setting the blu-ray player to 720p? maybe the tv will only accept 720p instead of 1080.

Since your roomate also has a device that accepts 1080i input try playing your BR player with his HDMI cable to his TV/display.

At this point I would try a different Blu-Ray player.
Or hook up the Phillips to a different TV.
