I actually found one of these at a local Sears outlet last year. It was an open item and came with a 3 year replacement/repair warranty for $660. I missed out on the deal, but I kick myself everyday for passing on that one.

So a used 55' would go for $700 right now or is that the 47' Amazon has the 55' for $4k still.

I can never figure out why that is? I think they are driving the price up do to it being a superior tech to what is available currently (minus 3D) or they simply have no clue.

I own 42LE8500 and I'm wondering if it can output AC3 (Dolby Digital) out of digital audio out while playing media files off USB. I'm thinking of sending the digital out of the TV into AV receiver and to the speaker system.

About two weeks ago I noticed one of the zones on the right side roughly mid height of my 55LE8500 was dim. I still get the picture behind it, however every other zone is brighter than this one zone, and it looks like it cant turn the brightness on. Anyone have a recommendation on how to fix this, is there a way to reset the zone within the menu of the tv?

I just wanted to say that 4 years later and this TV is still amazing
I might be noticing some slowdown in the local area dimming. Just my imagination?

Hi all I have owned this tv since the beginning of 2011. It's great. However having an issue. No matter what I do, i cannot reduce the backlight strength. Either via the pic menu the backlight slider from 0-100 does nothing and also via energy saver feature, also does nothing.

I never tried to use previously, but I am now living off the grid with a solar
system, and the energy saving achieved by reducing the backlight would be great. Was banking on it actually.

Any idea, anyone else had this problem, no help from lg here is South Africa, they are useless.

Thanks all.

I updated my LG 55LE8500 v 08.03.06 firmware today to v 08.03.07 using a USB Drive Stick. instructions for firmware installation via USB Drive Stick and download of firmware to your computer can be found at http://www.lg.com/us/support-product/lg-55LE8500#

a) Make a folder " LG_DTV " on USB Drive.
b) Save the firmware software in " LG_DTV " folder.
c) Insert USB Memory Drive into USB port on TV

I was hoping that firmware would have fixed my HDMI issue. All of a sudden none of my HDMI inputs are working. Is this a typical "might as well buy a new tv issue"? I'll have to relegate it as my Netflix/Vudu, CinemaNow TV in the play room if so.

Anyone else have this issue for this TV or any other LG? Man, I love this TV. I bought it in January 2010.

I don't have this issue. I have the TV since 2011, I agree the picture is great, but the TV as a whole is a beast only if used together with a HiFi system. Sound is terrible. For instance, I am missing some sound channels on my PS3 games and when it's connected through HDMI. Also latency is terrible, I cannot synchronise it to play SingStar for instance, where latency is crucial. Luckily I use my HiFi for sound where I can resolve all these issues.

Furthermore, my sis has the same TV since 2011 and theirs already has some "dead lines" in terms of full LED capabilities - i.e. in some areas backlighting cannot be turned off anymore, so the full LED concept is not working as it should. They do use it a lot more than us, that is true, I'd guess 10 hrs per day against 2 hrs per day in our case.

To summarise: I'm satisfied with the picture, but very disappointed with the sound, it's simply horrible. Why 10000 different settings for sound when changing them only turns sound from super ****** to only ******.

Hi guys,

I have a friend with this TV. It died a week ago. He tells me he needs the "main board," Part # EBR66098201. Anyone know of a source for this part? He would like to try fixing it himself.

TIA,
Craig
