Need help with a purchase asap! I can get great deals on the both the 8500 and the new sharp 810 60 in. Sammy 55 inch. Price is not a concern for me. I use this tv as a comp monitor. Gaming and movies. I want the best PQ possible. Which tv is that. And maybe a few reasons as to why? Any help asap would be great as I'm about to buy this tv within the next hour.

I haven't seen the new Sharp yet with it's QuadPixel tech. I'm not sure enough people own them around here just yet to get a wide range of impressions. I'm sure it's a nice TV and will look quite good. With that said though, the 8500 series from Samsung is a well known set with numerous glowing reviews. And for me, the fact it has local dimming LED vs Edge lit on the Sharp makes that an easy choice for me even without seeing the Sharp.

This review of Sharp may help you out:
http://www.flatpanelshd.com/review.p...&id=1272005448

I am not sure how 8500 is suitable for gaming as the input lag is a common issue with Samsung TVs. Also, Sammy has below average off-axis performance.
8500 may have better PQ (contrast at least) when viewed dead on center only.

Whatever you do, don't just read the last paragraph of that review. I don't know what it is about that site, but if you only read the last paragraph of their reviews you would be under the impression that every TV is a great TV. Read the entire review and you'll get a better understanding of the issues with the Sharp.

lol. Thanks for the headsup but I read he entire review. As I always do. I read great thing about the sharp and the fact that yo can pause live tv is pretty freaking cool. I'm still on the fence about which to get. I can get the 60inch Sharp if I get the sharp. 55 Sammy. I hear really good thing and really bad things about the Sammy. I'm a very big gamer. Input lag is bad to me.

If gaming lag is one of your main concerns then forget about the 8500

Unfortunately, there is probably some stupid law/patent/whatever that prevents manufactures have this functionality in NA models.
You will find the same thing with 2010 Panasonic plasmas where EU models have DVR, EPG, DLNA etc. and the US models are just crippled.

I think it also has to do with the varying broadcasters and potential copyright implications; without going into further detail on the subject, UK has a more narrow and streamlined broadcasting system, whereas here in America, plenty of options and legal issues prevent 'cool' dvr functions like this (think also ps3 dvr capabilities).

As far as input lag, I am staying far away from samsungs due to their lag... From what I have read, the 810 has minimal lag, and due to user reviews and the early reviews out so far, the 810 jumped to the top of my list! I think the samsungs are also STILL using the same small capacitors resulting in power failure issues and relay switch issues. This is the reason, along with input lag, why I returned the ln46b640 and then the ln46b750 I bought last year (been on the hunt for a replacement since). The 810 would certainly get my vote for reliability, quality (less lipsyncing issues due to their processing versus samsungs AMP), and input lag.

From what I can find, the Sharp Quattron is not yet available. However, Mr. Sulu does a good job of showing it off on the TV commercial advertising it.

Cant comment on the Samsung, I had a price range and the 7000 (3D) and above were out of it, if I went Samsung it would have been the 6300 40in model. This Sharp was out of the price range as well but because they had what seems to be a pricing glitch, I was able to get it

Gaming on the Sharp tho looks good, I never knew my 8bit NES could look so good, j/k , but seriously no problem that I could see/feel with FPS on the Sharp. Avatar I dont have so I cant comment on it

But I will say that I cant wait until others get this set because it does need to be calibrated in my opinion and I dont have the extra caesh to dish out on it and Id love to see some numbers on the settings that people end up using

Not a very fair Poll considering the 8500 has been on the market for over 6 months and the high end Quattron hasn't even debuted anywhere yet!

920 Series is the high end and is not available for viewing anywhere.

Ownership is so recent and few or even available auditions limited it simply is not going to be a reasonable or fair poll as there are perhaps 100+ times the number of 8500 owners vs Sharp Quattron for christs sake the 8500 has been viewed and owned for so long and most of us haven't viewed a Quattron outside a TV Commercial and as stated 920 series has not debuted from which to compare TOP END 920 Series Sharp with TOP END Samsung. That's a FACT!

Personally I won't VOTE since I agree the Samsung is outstanding I can't very well vote without a single 920LE Series from which to compare personally or through professional review as it's been delayed. The 810/820 are the lower end of the Quattron line.

Samsung 65F8000, 60D8000, 40HU6350, Panasonic 50E60 LCD's

@JukeBox360
It was 1/3 off the original price, which was roughly what the 700UN is going for right now at that retailer, which makes me think it was just a mess up and thought it was an older model but then found out a fixed it, the price glitch was only in effect for around 1 1/2 days and only affected the 40in model

@ westa6969
That is a fair assessment of the situation, where I went for the 810, the didnt have the 920, only the 810 models in different sizes. Im sure the 920 will be a nice set, but I just dont have the cash to dish out on that kind of set, as Im sure its gonna be well over 2k
And the 810 is the lower end Quattron, but for what Im using it for and what it offers and the price glitch, I just had to test it out and now Im happy I did, the 820 is suppose to be a few hundred more than the 810 and I can imagine the 920 is going to be quite a few hundred more than the 820

STAY VERY FAR AWAY FROM SAMSUNG IF YOU GAME! Trust me on this, I'm a big gamer and lament the day I decided to get a Samsung. Samsung tvs are horrible for gaming and even their gaming mode sucks compared to other options. I'm going to be getting one of the new Sharps I think as soon as some stores in my area have them on display. I have to see a TV in person before I'll buy it.

Input lag test results on the 52A750

"Maybe the input lag on this set matches the lag in your head therefore you don't perceive it".

Thanks, westa, that's what I meant. I just wasn't specific enough. I should have said the "top of the line" Quattron that should be compared to the Samsung 8500 isn't out yet.

I didn't vote either. Kinda silly at this point to even have the poll.

The poll was just for me to view the strait answer. I was debating these 2 tvs vs eachother as I was trying to pick between the 2. Guess I wasn't to clear on as to why the title. This is just reference as to which to pick to buy now. If I wanted to compare top of line. It would be the LE8500 vs SAMMY 8500
