I still have not seen a true retail Sony 3D Tv, only demo models which did not represent the final retail model at that time. I appeciate your input.

It's been a couple months since I watched 3d on a Panasonic at Best Buy. I would say it's on par or at least close to the Panasonic's 3D quality. Sony has their hands in every stage of 3D development from production of content to the hardware that it's displayed on. I don't believe that any other company can make that claim. That being said, I feel that Sony waited a bit longer to ensure that their 3D products could really showcase the technology. That's my 2 cents.

I am coming from a fairly high end surround set up, so it is difficult for me to review the speakers. I would give them a thumbs up based on some of the network content I watched through the speakers. I didn't have any of the effects/enhancements turned on, and I felt that they were still better than my Samsung A550 and my friend's LG.

Thanks, that sounds good to me!! I am an early adopter so I was looking forward in getting a 3D TV, I know it's a gimmick for now but who's to say it won't change in the future and I also get an upgrade TV out of it from a Sony 42v4100 60hz LCD to a 46HX800 at 240hz aint a bad trade off if the 3D stuff doesn't go as planned.

HT Set Up: Epson 8350, Sony Strd G-920, JBL 7.1 Venue series speakers, JBL Sub12 subwoofer, Harmony One remote, Xbox 360, PS3, Sony BDP S350, Toshiba HDA2, Directv HR-24 DVR.

oh it wasn't a deal I made with Sony, I am a huge Sony TV fan and since I am an early adopter I sell the last Sony TV I buy to friends and friends of a friend so I take that money and put it towards the newest TV, lol. I started this back in the 90's with my 27 inch Trintron. I wish I had that deal with Sony to trade in my V4100!

ps. what content have you watched in 3D? Are you getting the BDP s570?

I have only played the four 3D games that were included with the tv. I also watched soccer, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, and a demo disk on the display model. I have played around with the 3D upconversion as well. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 3D and IMAX Deep Sea Adventure 3D are included with the tv, but you have to register online for them. I am probably holding out for the Denon DBP-1611, as it should be out this month. If I bought a Sony, it would probably be the S770, but I'm not sure when it is coming out.

Is PS3 not a good 3d player? I was planning on using it to watch 3D movies. Or is it not capable of playing movies, but only 3D games?

vladi, the current PS3 firmware version 3.3 adds 3D gaming capability only, a firmware update for 3D movie playback is due in the fall, so we'll have to wait and see.

And it will not support 3D movies at full resolution.

I have a PS3 and this is why I am getting rid of my bdp s350 and getting the s570 for full 3D support. The firmware arrived last Friday for owners of the s470 amd s570!

Nah, that's a bullcrap comment. Everything I've read are saying you are getting full 3D support on your PS3 later this year through a firmware update. Not sure where you got that information.

Thank you, everything I have seen and read has no indication that the PS3 cannot do full 3D. The reps at CES on video confirmed it even.

We will see...

When it comes to 3D Blu-ray playing from your PS3, you won’t be getting 1080p signals to each eye, you’ll only be getting 1080i. Without HDMI 1.4’s speed, version 1.3 just can’t push dual 1080p images through the pipes.

The PS3 will play 3D Blu-rays after a firmware update--and Sony claims it can handle full 1080p resolution

We don't doubt Sony's claim that the PS3 will be able to playback 3D Blu-ray movies after a firmware update, but we're definitely skeptical that it will do it at full resolution. A Sony representative emphatically told us that we'll get "full 1080p resolution to each eye", but we're under the impression that full 3D 1080p resolution requires HDMI 1.4--and the PS3 only has HDMI 1.3. Either way, it's the only existing Blu-ray player we've heard is getting a 3D update.

I probably don't understand - but 1080i is 1080 lines of resolution. And 1080p is 1080 lines of resolution - is it not?

Those articles are old, back at CES everyone thought you needed 1.4 HDMI to get 3D, you dont. HDMI 1.3 can still do 3D it just cant do what HDMI 1.4 covers: 4K, Ethernet, Automotive HD etc. The fact is my 3 year old PS3 can do 3D, I am very happy with that fact.

Sony has not released the firmware for 3D blu-ray playback. We will see how things play out. Sony has a history of overstating the ps3's abilities.

I agree with the waiting on the firmware, curious though, how has Sony overstated the PS3 in the past? Not challenging you here, just want some examples.

So overall how are you feeling about this TV a few days later? I'm contemplating getting this TV, but am not sure if I want to jump the gun so early on 3D TVs. My other possibility is a 60EX, but the reviews haven't been great and there's supposedly game lag.

I am still thrilled with it, but have primarily viewed 2D content on it. I have played a handful of 3D games, and they all look great. The rest of the 3D content was viewed on the display model. I was looking for a set that had some of the best 2D quality with the future friendliness of having 3D capability. After playing with the settings, I actually prefer the picture on the set with most of the enhancement options turned off. I turned off a black enhancement setting that almost eliminated some minor black crush. The color is extremely vibrant and this set has the deepest blacks I've ever seen on an edge lit set. The local dimming and deep black panel seem to make a difference. The glare is definitely worse than a matte screen, but not as bad as your typical glossy screen. I would still love to see some professional calibration settings for this display. In my opinion, you will be hard pressed to find a better lcd picture for less money than this. I notice no lag when playing timing sensitive games like Guitar Hero.

I just wanted to add to this conversation about PS3's 3D capabilities. I was told at the Sony Store that PS3 would not be capable outputting both 1080P 3D ,and Uncompressed/High Definition Audio through the HDMI 1.3. I am by no means saying that this factual, but just passing along what I was told.

I guess my concern is whether I want to jump on a 3D TV while it's still unproven or if the 60EX is good enough. And if I do want a 3D TV, if I'm willing to shell out another $2 grand for the upcomning 60-inch 3D LED-LCD.

Sigprime, I don't want to know anything, I just want to thank you for taking so much time to tell us all about this TV. It would appear you're the only one here who has it, so the information you're putting forth is basically invaluable.

It does look fantastic. It's either that or the HX900 for me. I'll be going to the Sony Store in Manhattan next week sometime to check it out. Your pictures and thoughts have almost swayed my steady decision to get the 900 to get this.

Thanks again.

If I wasn't into home theater, I'd have a whole lotta money.

Did they happen to mention if an update to PS3 was coming with HDMI 1.4 any time soon?

Those are pretty old articles and I don't think they are valid anymore.

It's still 1080, full 1080 lines so it's still FULL 3D. Even if I don't believe the 1080P vs 1080i 3D for PS3, I could quote you some and even more links than you that states that people won't see a difference between 1080i and 1080p unless you are using a 60" and bigger television...

the Hx800 won't be available until next week here in Canada. Release date is june 21st. On the good news side (at least for me) both local shops (futureshop) and Sonystyle.ca had the 46" as back order and this has changed to "pre-order" now so it looks like I might be ok to score a 46".
