Hello all. Hope you can help me out. I just spent tons of money and bought a new Sony HX909 and a Sony Bluray surround system.
My question will follow in a short while after I tell you the set up.
Dish Network box to the bluray via HDMI cable.
Bluray to TV via HDMI cable. Neat and easy.
My qestion is...does the Bluray have a "pass through" feature that allows me to watch the TV w/o the player being turned on? I really don't need the surround system to watch the news and other such stuff.
When I turn off the BR, the tv screen goes black then tells me no signal.
Your opinions?
By the way, Ive had a XBR 2, then an XBR5 and then an XBR9. If I were to rank them from best to worst: HX909..XBR2...XBR5 (till it died) and last....the hunk of crap XBR9. I am really pleased with the picture on this new TV!!!

has anyone else measured a significant luminance variation with their hx909?

probably never would have noticed, but in trying to calibrate the TV with a colorimeter, the luminance regularly starts at 135 cd/m2 when theTV is started up, but drops over the course of an hour or so to 65 cd/m2 if left on a windows desktop or other static screen. if I then change sources back to TV for a few mintues, then change back to the HTPC, the luminance restores to ~125 cd/m2, which is where it should be.

of course this does not occur with my computer monitors at all.

it just seems strange that the backlight? variation is occurring.

power saving mode is turned off.

Your correct accept the only one to eliminate most of the blooming is the Elite.

Checking out the VT30 and my LV9500 has better blacks. I saw a 909 floor model. Excellent blacks

Are you a gamer? When I play a FPS (Borderland), I see a little clearer spot on the sky (blue or gray).
It could be confused with a very small cloud. It is located slightly above and left of the target. Hard not to see it (I make a fixation).
I was at my other two 52hx909 before deciding.
They had just under DSE, vertical banding, but a more marked.

DSE: light cloud clear background of uni (sky, grass, ice, sand)

Banding (light & black bars): a lot of screen tearing, with all the visible content.

bass462, what are you a face and under what conditions?

Blackvette94 is right: Some users complain about the 920 black bars very marked and DSE.

Chemi,

The settings I gave were from an ISF calibration of the HX909, of course those settings can be alittle off from panel to panel but it can give you maybe 90%-95% of what a calibration would give. If you want dead on perfect getting your TV ISF calibrated would be the only way.

As for DSE on the HX909 is not bad for an lcd. I have seen alot of LCD's, I still like to go to Best buy from time to time to look at the new sets in the magnolia section. I looked at the new Elite led local dim, that tv has the best uniformity for an lcd or any tv for that matter that I have ever seen. It was next to the HX929.

I hate to make HX929 owners upset but that sets uniformity IS worse then the HX909. It makes sense too, the UV2A panel in the 909 is the same tech Sharp are using in the Elite, except a more advance panel I bet. I am pretty sure the 46 HX909 would have even better uniformity as it is smaller, as from my experience other the the Elite panel, smaller lcds usually have better uniformity.

Wondering if anyone out there can shed some light on something that just happened -- I've had a 52" 909 since last March, and have been using it with Netflix ever since. Last night, I went to watch a movie I had queued up on the computer, and noticed that Netflix is nowhere to be found within the XMB menu/bar.

Has anyone else seen this, or know how to fix this? I also noticed others that used to be there are gone now too (NHL, Pandora, Last.fm, etc), and I also don't have the 'Activate Enhanced Features' listed anymore (already registered it with the Sony Essentials website back when I set it up in March, and there is no option to re-add Netflix when I log in via the web).

I'm also in Canada, in case there is a difference between what's available in each country.

Given Sony's 'knack' for removing features from their products, I'm really hoping Netflix on the 909 isn't one of them.

I have it but yours is likely much worse if it's actually that annoying. I noticed early on that on certain color palettes in video games I get a bit of blue ghosting during fast movement like you describe. I am currently living in Skyrim and it is noticeable only when the environment being displayed is predominantly grayish/black. It is a slight effect that I can easily ignore and it is not visible under any other conditions. I have never noticed it while viewing any other form of content. Considering the many other benefits to my PQ I am getting with the set, it is not an issue for me unless it worsens.

Hi all,

I think my HX909 has died. My wife turned it on Sunday morning and at around 10AM the TV went dead. Tried every solution from Sony's online support to turn the TV on again and all I get is 2 blinks of the amber/standby light every 3 seconds. I think from the Sony diagnostic code, means over current or something.

At any rate, I called Sony tech support and it looks like they are going to replace the TV because it's still under warranty and it can't be repaired. (so sad) I've had this TV since July 2010, just made it within the 18 month warranty. I love this TV but in my 20 years of owning TVs (mostly sony), this is the first to fail.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? And, should I get a replacement HX909 or just upgrade to the HX929?

Thanks,

Solid

I also wonder if other owners of the 909 had the same issue with the tv went dead? Hey solid i think u should get another 909 ive been going to the 929 forums and there having alot of issues with banding and creasing issues with there 929 but some are happy with there 929 good luck with your decision and im also deciding if i should buy my extended warranty

How much do they want for the upgrade? I wouldn't mind upgrading my 52HX909 to a 65HX929 if the price was right. I don't know if you'd notice any difference in the 55HX929 over the 52HX909.

I had about 7 weeks left in my 18 month warranty. I've had 5 TVs in 20 years, all sony but 1 and this is the the first to die on me. I should consider myself lucky.

I want another HX909, but I was told I would get the same model or equivalent, whatever that means. I hope its not a refurbished, I had a bad experience with getting refurbished to replace something under warranty. We'll see on Tuesday when it's delivered.

I thought about the 929 but I decided it may be better to wait for the 2012 models and if I don't like my replacement, upgrade with the 2012.

I really was happy with the HX909, I just wish Sony would upgrade the firmware with some of the features of the HX929.

P.S. I would get the warrenty. $180 for 5 years is not bad.

Had the same 2 blinks ón my 920. Sony changed the power supply and it works well.

Is there any kind of external coating on the glass? There doesn't seem to be. I have a disabled daughter who occasionally draws on the set with crayons. I usually try isopropyl alcohol, but it didn't work this time, so I tried a few drops of Dr. Bronner's with a little water, and it looks fantastic! The soap will foam a lot, it's very concentrated, so you only need a few drops with a little water.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but I have a really clean TV.

Hello,

Do you guys use Detail Enhancer feature on Bluray movies and other Hidef material? I keep switching it on and off and just can't understand if it's good or bad. It makes picture really sharp, but even on low it increases background noise and compression artifacts which are barely visible when it's off.

My Tv is 52HX900

Thanks.

I posted a while back when I purchased the tv, and couldn't quite get it to look as good as I thought it should. Seemed a bit dark, and could see some of the blue in the blacks. Also, for a long time I felt like I could see a greenish tinge in shadow details on darker faces etc.

Anyway, as of now I am quite pleased with the set as I have been living with the following settings for a good month.

General/Custom
Backlight: 5
Picture: 80
Bright: 50
Color: 50
Hue: 0
Temp: Warm 2
Gamma: 0
Motionflow: Clear 1

White Balance
RG: -10
GG: -8
GB: -1
BB: -1
others 0

For blu-ray I use Gamma -1, and the backlight can be adjusted to suit your viewing environment, I just find 5 to be a good compromise for both brighter and darker viewing environments (never pitch black however). Overall it's a great tv, especially considering all the problems people have had with the other top of the line tv's.

Guys
What kind of media servers can you connect to this TV? I see a section called media server troubleshooting in settings on the TV

Can I connect an XBMC or windows server to the TV so that it can show my computer content?

Thanks

I'm limited on time to keep looking through the posts but I am incredibly curious... How bad is the blooming on this model? off and on axis. Thanks to anyone who can reply by the time I can log back on to check.

Its not bad at all... but definitely its there.... depends on what you are viewing but on BD's I don't notice and watch off axis all the time... Its just a little faded, but there isn't a noticeable bleed at least for me.

Does anyone know roughly how much input lag there is on the HX900 when connected to a HTPC @ 1080/24p (full 0-255 range) with everything on default settings (local dimming = standard) except with motionflow set to smooth?

I have a KDL-52HX900 and I'm interested in how much I should delay the audio (approximately) in my media player (MPC-HC). Don't have a CRT to compare to, sadly.

Thanks!

I have a KDL-52HX900 and I'm interested in how much I should delay the audio (approximately) in my media player (MPC-HC). Don't have a CRT to compare to, sadly.

Thanks!

Audio lag is so subjective... If you really need to gauge, should run it through a new generation receiver that has automatic audio sync.... otherwise its a guessing game.
