It's finally posted officially on the Vizio website!

the new highly anticipated/hyped Vizio XVT3SV series, with 120 Local Dimming LED zones.

the website prices the 55 inch model for $2,199.

that's insanely cheap for a brand spanking new model.

check it out: http://www.vizio.com/xvt553sv.html

and thoughts/opinions, can't wait to see professional reviews of it..

the other smaller sized models in the series are already posted on Amazon as well, with Amazon shipping them out in August.

55 inch panel already ready for pre-order:

nope, this is not a 3D tv. the 4 series will be 3D but higher priced and later release.

i personally don't give a crap for 3d anyways.

post update: the XVT553SV has started shipping! Currently, according to a Vizio rep, only Amazon , Walmart , Sam's Club and one more online retailer has the XVT553SV, the other smaller sized xvt3sv (47'' and below) might already be available at your local retailers =]

I've watched this TV using a lot of source devices (PS3, HDTV, HD-DVD, SD-DVD, computer, Netflix, etc.), but I've never seen any judder using essentially the same settings listed by CNET.

There are a lot of menu options on this TV that can interact in curious ways with various source materials. If you turn off most of these "features," use the proper aspect ratio (no zoom or squeeze) and use a good play-back device with an HDMI connection, I doubt you would see the artifacts you mention.

OK i appreciate the feedback. as a result of your comment, i also assume that in your opinion the set properly handles 1080/24 content?

this is the set I want, i think - forget paying more $$$ for less (*cough* sony *cough* samsung) - just want to make sure the image processing is up to snuff

the only other thing that concerns me is gaming lag (something samsung and sony also don't do well) - i have seen it only mentioned a little bit in this thread regarding this TV and so far all seems well. anyone else have thoughts on this?

The only time I ever see judder on my 2007 Toshiba LCD, is when I am watching scenes on planet earth or life when it does a slow pan. I understand why judder shows up on an older Tv like that which clearly cannot properly process 24fps content, but why am I seeing it on the crappy multifeed they push over component to all 35 of the TVs they have on display. I am so disappointed b/c I really was into this TV, but that Sammy was just alot nicer. Any ideas on this/comments?

If you based your choice on the crappy feed and set adjustment at Costco, you would not buy a single set there.

Please look at professional reviews on-line as well as print magazines and owner feedback (from this forum and others) when making a decision.

According to Cnet, the 553 is one of the best LCD TV's made this year and being a new owner, I completely agree.

I'm not a huge gamer, but I do have a PS3 and have not had a chance to play with it yet.

I have not seen any judder either and have watched content from Directv, OTA (Winegard antenna), and blu-ray. From movies to football and baseball games it looks great to me.

I'm also using the Cnet settings and doublechecked those with the Spears & Munsil blu-ray calibration disc......very close.

It appears that some folks here are wanting more information on the gaming capabilites of this TV before pulling the trigger........any gamers out there that can comment?

The 553's PQ at Costco was dissappointing to me too. I chalked it up to the crappy component input that they had running to it but I do agree that some other TVs handled it better. I'm not letting that sway me from this model though. The way others describe the picture, I'm sure it won't be the same when hooked up via HDMI.

That's because they have all those tv's hooked up to 1 source. The more tv's that are hooked up to that 1 source the more degraded the PQ is. They had a M470NV hooked up to a Blu-Ray player showin Avatar @ my local costco & the pic was incredible.

This is very true. It is almost pointless to set up all those TVs the way they do as it is basically impossible to tell what is REALLY better. That is why I appreciate this forum as a resource.

At the risk of beating a dead horse, however, the crappy source at Costco did not prevent the other nearby TVs from properly eliminating the judder I saw using the same crappy source. THAT is the source of my concern; that that the TV, while excellent, might have an issue dealing with Judder over the component inputs, for example, but maybe not HDMI. Just a theory.

But, you have a point - this is in an excellent TV by all accounts, and I probably should just try it for myself. Costco allows 90 day returns, so that will be plenty of time to figure it out for myself.

You should not be able to tell the difference between using HDMI cables or Component cables. I have my older Samsung hooked up both ways and it looks exactly the same either way, but I have a lot less trouble with DCHP issues when using the Component cables.

I'd also like too see input lag numbers for this tv. Any gamers out there willing to test?

Anyone who attaches any value to how a TV looks while receiving a store feed is wasting their time. No TV is ever going to look right in a store, and it will always looks much better hooked up in your home. I've bought enough to know.

I own a 551 model and it's absolutely stellar with input lag. There is basically none that I can detect, and I consider myself pretty darn picky. Even with the motion processing on I have a hard time noticing a difference, but of course I turn it off for my game settings anyway.

As much as we gripe about the odd issue here and there, I don 't think anyone on the board who has a 3SV has elected to return it. That says something.

Is it the dressiest TV on the market? Absolutely not, but if you like understated elegance this works. I'm not sure I want my television to be that conspicuous in the living room anyway. I've got other accents.

Non-obstrusive but distinctive seems to best sum it up IMO.

I was in Omaha over the weekend so checked out Costco, Sams Club and Nebraska Furniture Mart. No one had the 47 or 55 inch model although Sam's had the 42 inch XVT3. I though the picture looked very nice and the off angle visibility was much better than the other televisions in the vicinity.

The folks at Sam's Club were not any help in finding any inventory or being able to tell me when they would be getting the 47 inch model (55 is too big for my basement - and yes, I know a real man never admits when it is too big).

NFM had a few Vizios and the salesman there said they are not going to be carrying the XVTs. He also did not seem to be a fan of the Vizios and told me for the money I would be better off with the Panasonic Plasma and that it had one of the best pictures out there (I see Cnet has them in their top 5). Of course, if he had one to sell me maybe he would have been more of a fan! I really like all of the features of the Vizio, especially the remote, internet apps and wifi/internet connectivity. How do you guys like the remote so far?

If Costco had one to buy I would pull the trigger today. Dont think I will probably be steered away from this model. I like the 2 year warranty upgrade they will offer and the 90 day return policy. I have read/heard a lot about failures of Vizios but from my research they fail no more than Samsung and some of the other "big dogs" ( I believe 3% was what I came across). NFM rep also told me that the Vizio tv is not 240Hz. The recent cnet review also lists the XVT3s as 120 Hz. Did I miss something? Thanks to everyone for your posts here on the AV forum. I have been following this thread for the last Month!

Frustrated with Costco! My local store (Birmingham, AL) can only tell me the product is "new" and shows an order date of 8/27/10, but none are scheduled to come to this store.

As more people hear about this TV, I'm tempted to go ahead and order it from Dell.com. Tired of waiting...

Funny you mention Panasonic, I've been lurking in the shadows following this thread for weeks while going nuts trying to decide between the XVT553 and the 54" G25 series from Panasonic. Was originally going with the Panasonic, decision was made without any doubt. Wanted plasma due to dark room, lack of motion blur issues for sports, and no cartoony/soap opera effect. The Panasonic has great reviews and a great price. My biggest criteria is black level. The Panasonic is considered to have amazing black levels, but I lost my confidence in them after reading that black levels were found to deteriorate over time in the 2009 models, apparently increasing light level by about three times it output when new, though Panasonic claims the black level is still good even after it deteriorates. The jury is not out yet on the 2010 models, so I turned my attention to the Vizio and this thread. My last TV is a 32" JVC CRT from 1996, I started to looking to buy a HDTV about 8 years ago and have been following very closely ever since but have been watching the technology skyrocket and the prices plummet and kept wanting to wait one more year before jumping on board, but that can go on forever so I figure its time. Good reviews and great info on this thread have put the Vizio in front, but if anyone can comment on the strengths of this particular LED-LCD vs the Panasonic plasma it would be appreciated. Also, I remember reading prior versions of the Vizio 240hz smooth motion were really 120hz with added processing, is this still the case? I assume it can be switched off for movies? Now that the XVT3 owners have had more time to watch, has anyone had any issues with blooming or smooth motion? Thanks everyone for all of the great info and the efforts being made to question the discrepancies in Vizios marketing material. Any additional info is appreciated.

In a similar vein, is there any Dolby Digital 5.1 output through the optical out (from DVD pass-through or TV)? The lack of this capability in the LG LH90 from last year is one of the reasons I passed on it (don't want to have to buy a new HDMI receiver when my current one works just fine).

I emailed Vizio service to have this question answered. Short answer is yes, there should be DD 5.1 ouput via the digital out (see below). Can any current owners confirm this or are you all using HDMI-compatible receivers?

Thanks,

Scott

I have an XVT553SV. I don't readily have the equipment to test this out, but I did come across a "Game Mode" option. It's not mentioned in the printed or online manual, but it's definitely available on the TV:

True, but I figured that some people are having a hard time finding it at their Costco, or don't have a membership there.

This always happens initially. New product. Good reviews. People want them. Same thing happenned with the 551 and 552. Eventually there were plenty, but you had to wait.

If you really want it from Costco, call them everday....they don't mind.....give them the item #553100.....and they should be able to update you.....also ask them to check other stores in your area. It's a pain, but it does work.

If you can't wait, Dell is certainly one of the options.

Does anyone know if and when Coscto will carry the 47" XVT473SV?
