Hi guys,
I'm a newbie so any help is very much appreciated.

I'm trying to decide about what LCD set to get. 37" is as big as I can go, and for that size I was able to pin down two sets I'm interested in:

Insignia - 37" Class / 1080p / 120Hz / LCD HDTV // NS-37L550A11

-or-

Samsung - 37" Class / 1080p / 60Hz / LCD HDTV // LN37C550

---

As you can see the main noticeable difference is that the Insignia is 120hz, and the Samsung is 60hz. Samsung doesn't make 120hz models for sizes smaller than 40" I think... Bummer.

Going for the Samsung is its Dynamic Contrast Ratio of 90,000:1 compared to 12,000:1 of the Insignia... But I read these numbers usually are considered at the manufacturer's discretion, so don't mean much.

So.... My question is... Is Samsung that much better of a TV that you would compromise the 120hz feature??? Or is this really the main difference?

Can you give me your input??? What would you get??? Thanks!

This is a no brainer in favor of the Samsung and all one needs is to look at the PQ and understand there is a reason that Samsung is number one in the World for several years now - hands down choose the Samsung. Why not just get a 40" with 120Hz? There's very little difference in money and bigger is always better unless you have some kind of furniture restriction to house the panel.

You could also consider a Vizio Razor LED at Target, Costco or Sams - it's quite an impressive panel and feature rich for the money.

The Insignia doesn't sell enough to justify much in the way of professional testsing. This is especially true in the 37 inch category which isn't nearly as well represented as 40 inch panels.

Well implemented 120 Hz or 240 Hz motion blur reduction can be very effective. At the same time, the motion blur isn't typically a glaring shortcoming. "Keeneyed viewers might notice softening of textures or edges in sports, action movies, and video games, or in a moving text ticker. But they might see little if any difference between the best and blurriest sets in sitcoms, dramas, and news shows."

If you are limited to 37 inches the Samsung LN37C550 is a proven good performer.

There is one more model to consider. The Panasonic TC-L32X2. This TV tested well and should be several hundred less than the Samsung.

Sounds like even the 120hz feature isn't enough of an advantage from Insignia against a Samsung model.

Anybody disagree?

Thanks for your feedback!

I would go for the samsung if I had to, but I would suggest expanding your options a bit. it will probably cost a little more, but look into the panasonic tc-l37d2 120hz LED. it will perform better than either of the listed models.

ht Panasonic 60" ZT60, Monitor Audio: Silver RX6, RX Centre, RX1; Martinlogan Dynamo 700, Marantz SR5006, PS3, Oppo BDP-103D, Panamax M-5100PM
