Long story short my nephew decided to use his scooter in the house and in his own words "gently bumped the TV" and now the panel has a big white blotch and I think it may be physically broken (too much screaming over the phone to get the straight answer).... I'm finding a new-found fondness for our cat and dog ruled household right now...

Anyway... I already gave my brother my two cents on the issue but is this something that is even MILDY worth getting repaired? It's gotta be about 1.5ish years old and he was always complaining how dark the TV looked when playing anything from his DVD (and some cable too) back when he first got it and never could figure that one out. Well he said... My dark TV problem is gone anyway...

So any reason to think this sucker is worth fixing? I assume no but on a similar note what should he do with it just put it out when his town does ecycling or maybe donate it to .... I dunno ... I'd say an electronics training/vocational school but maybe I'm dating myself given todays world of disposable everything.

Any insights would certainly be welcome...

Oh the model is: Sharp Aquos LC-C3237U (a 32" unit IIRC).

It's unlikely the bump was gentle to create that artifact.

Most likely may cost more to repair than replace and at least it's a 32" which presently are inexpensive.

You can get a 32" Vizio 320VT LED for about $500 at Target now that'll blow away the 1.5 yr old Sharp CCFL or upgrade to a larger size. The CCFL is assembled in numerous layers to comprise the panel and not certain you can arbitarily replace the layers or if it's cost effective or if backlight is damaged you may be SOL.

That emphasis was put in by me as a wink/nod to all the guys who knew that the 'gentle tap' was not so gentle and very much untap-like.

Hey us men were all 10 year old manic boys at one time and I can vaguely remember saying something quite similar to MY dad when I his age and I 'gently brushed' the manual antenna on our brand new 74' ford and then it just snapped right off.

Yea but I do remember the punishment that was administered the next day... Hey even after a night to cool off he was still supper angry and had the belt in hand and I knew it was gonna hurt him more than it did me. Yea sure...
