No. But you will instinctually figure it out. It is written in our geeky DNA code. Then the caveman DNA kicks in (proudly lifting or dragging back to the man cave.) Followed by chants of excitement similar to the fist pumping whoop chanting from the arsenio hall show. In other words... Don't sweat the small stuff. Just relax and enjoy.

Once on that screen, you can place small amounts of pressure on the glass (no more than you would even dusting or wiping off prints) and really see them shine. Obviously something seeming to poke through from the back to the front.

Best of luck for you!

Actually I noticed the spots only when the TV is set to either game or graphics scene in any input. Let's say the picture is dark and I press "Play" the play icon comes up so it kind of lights up that part of screen(left side) the cloudy spot becomes very visible. While the scene mode is set to any other the spots are not visible only in rare cases like when in any given movie at night scenes there is some light.

P. S. Beware of the largest solar storm in 4 years. Hug your TVs and don't let it get hurt.

@LuV2SPD you told Sony that when you set your PS3 to 720p and the TV won't play the games in 3d. In those words and they said they's send a "team" over?. Do yu know how many people comprise the team? What solar storm.. didn't know ther was one 4 years ago. or at all for taht matter.

I just load up a portable USB hard drive with movies and plug it into one of these and find the movie in the menu and play it! It just works!!

I have spent way too many hours trying to do what you are doing to only find out I needed some type of special format to get it to play to then just find out that format sucks and I just waisted lots of time. Please I mean no harm to you in any way, but the frustration and time I have spent on getting files to play in things just gets to me, especially when someone out of the blue says all you need to do is convert it to this specific format (and it takes like 3-6 hours to do it per movie) and they say it is easy, when in fact it is not. Easy means you just put whatever file on a hard drive or USB and the player plays it just like the seagate units do.

But good luck in whatever decision you make, It would be interesting to know what it does play at least. If you do not find the answer by next week, I will ask Sony for the answer when I call them next week.

Thanks for the input dfran. I was afraid that there would be restriction on the content. I may play with it a little bit but I may just plug my laptop into my tv like I did with my old one.

Hey guys, question for everyone...how happy are you guys with the nx810? I currently have a xbr52lx900 and I am thinking about exchanging it for a kdl55nx810. I'm not sure what the best thing to do is so I'm looking for some advice...

Biggest difference is the lx has built in emitter for 3d and no edge local dimming.

Nx810 has the local dimming but no built in emitter.

I guess it would come down to price. I am very happy with the nx810 and would not consider a swap with the lx.

Same price, no cost difference. But what I'm noticing is that when it's calibrated the local dimming is shut off, so it doesn't even come into plat

To buy this set and not take advantage of the edge locally dimming would be worthless, calibrated or not. It clearly increases black level. My good friend has the lx900, while it's a great tv with all the stuff built in, it really can't match the nx810 I own. And we are room mates so I see his and mine everyday.

I never told them about 720p.
I was complaining about ghosting or crosstalk while watching 3D. At Sony store in NYC they have the 60" NX810 on display and HX800 and one other I didn't care but none of their TVs had crosstalk. The 3D picture was pure and clear. When I told them that my TV has crosstalk they didn't understand what it was and when i tried to explain they advised me to call Sony style tech support. The tech support had no idea what crosstalk was even though I called back many times and spoke to different people. They first sent me the polarizer filters and that didn't help so I called again and they assured me that Sony TVs have no crosstalk and that I might need a replacement on my 3D engine so there for they set up a in home service.
A solar storm is when the sun releases strong solar winds that reach earth and can damage settelites or any communication devices such as your cell phone. I saw it on Fox News today. I work one block away from the Fox building.

Thats what I thought, I watched one for about ½ hour before I purchased mine and did not see any also, but then again maybe I was not looking good enough or maybe some/most of these TV's have problems or bad boards??

When is your appointment for them to look into it, please keep us posted, we/I am very interested, and I think I need to visit some retailers again, but I noticed best buy sold their demo units last week, I saw no nx810 on display and a bunch of empty spots.

They are coming tomorrow 02/19/2011
I hope they don't show up at 9:00am, it's my only day off work. Hate to wake up that early when don't have to.
Maybe I should start buying TVs from the show rooms.

thanks for the clarification and the heads up on the solar storm. If the 3d engine was broken wouldn't the blueray fail to play 3D? Did you hook up a bluray to it? I can't get 3d w/ my settop box, but haven't swapped the settop box, sony support is *VERY* challenging. But supprt told me it has to be the cable provider if 3d bluray works, so applying that logic, maybe your ps3 is bad?

Hello,

Has anyone tried to hook up the 55NX810 or similar to a MAC or even a PC?

I'm having a problem that I did not have before with my Samsung UE46B8000.

Facts:
- I'm using HDMI 1 to connect a Mac Mini to the TV (tried others with the same result)
- My configurations on the Mac are 1080p, 60Hz and Overscan (as they should be)
- the image fills the screen as it should, so no problem there

The problem is that if we look at the text on the screen, for example a folder name or any text at all, there is a kind of a blur around the letters. They are not crystal clear as they should and as they were on my Samsung!

On my Samsung I had to configure the HDMI port to PC. In this way the television does not apply any filter or other picture enhancement and everything is fine.

Somehow I can't find on the SONY this capability to choose what kind of source I'm using on each HDMI.

I tried turning off every picture enhancement I could find but it did not help.

Could anyone help me around this problem?

Thanks

The only thing I could suggest is that Sony has the added scene select, which is different then the usual vivid, standard, and custom. There should be a scene for graphics,(spreadsheets and computer inputs). I don't know if it will help but it is worth a shot.

Thanks!

It worked!

Cinema, Pictures and Graphics make the blur disappear.

Although on Cinema and Graphics mode if i'm watching a movie that is on my mac everyone seems really tanned!

My 3D works, the only problem is "crosstalk" and it bothers me because the TV is not $1000. I paid $2899 for it so I was expecting decent 3D quality like Sony promised. So as soon as I wasn't happy I called Sony to complain. Sony assures me that their TV shows superior 3D quality (obviously) and even Sales people at the Sony store say the same thing (their TV did show crosstalk but so minimal that I actually had to look for it, and I'm seeing strong crosstalk on my set). After doing long hours, days and even weeks of research I realized that "crosstalk" is very common in today's 3D technology but Sony still claims that its not supposed to be like that. I even told the higher level tech support about "AVSForum.com" and they still denied to admit about 3D issue so this whole "crosstalk" thing got me really mad and that's why Sony is sending someone to my home to examine the TV. Sony says that maybe my 3D engine is faulty but not broken.

I have an opportunity to purchase the following:

KDL55NX810 for $660 + Tax
KDL60NX810 for $1.080 + Tax
KDL60EX700 for $505 + Tax

I am leaning toward the KDL60NX810 and would be interested in any guidance or comments, good or bad, regarding doing so. This would be my first LCD (LED) TV of any type and I haven't read this whole thread yet so please feel free to educate me. I plan on making a decision on Monday or Tuesday.

I do have a Directv HR24-200 that is 3D capable, but I haven't had need for it yet and really wasn't planning on 3D until this opportunity arose. My Blu-Ray player is not capable of 3D and I am not currently planning any upgrade of that at the present. There will not be any gaming console attached to the TV.

Thanks for any input.

I can't imagine these prices. I would call Sony and tell them the place you found these prices. There are many replicas out there and you may have problems down the line. Just saying.

Ok, here is some update on my experience with Sony service team (not much).
The guy examined my TV and he DID NOT tell me the "CROSSTALK" is normal. He wrote a bunch of stuff in his notes and told me he is going to explain exactly what he observed to some PROs. I would imagine that a technician for Sony would be aware of 3D "ghosting, crosstalk" and would simply say: well sir, it's the TV and you gotta live with it but he didn't. These people in my opinion just come over, see the problem and take notes and then pass it on to higher level. When you explain your problems to someone in far east over the phone is much different when some one sees it with their own eyes. Anyway he told me the will call me on Tuesday or Wednesday with a solution or the NEXT step. Will update.
Ohhh, about clouding he says it's normal and I told him that I see it in movies with night scenes so he also noted that because he says once you watch a movie the clouding which caused by backlit shouldn't be visible at all.

Trust me this is entirely legit. I'm not going to go into specifics but this is absolutely and entirely legit.
