Ok, so I was buying two of the LN46C630's for Christmas for my brother's and sister's family.

Some how someone let a secret go and they found out and mentioned that they might prefer a plasma. I assumed since they know little about TV's they could care less.

I assumed wrong.

So in the same price range of the LN46C640 is the Panasonic Plasma 50inch S2 (TC-p50s2). Now cnet seems to give the sammy verbally a better score, but both tv's received 3 stars.

I have only seen both TV's in store. None calibrated correctly. Only got to play with both for a few minutes.

Just wanted your thoughts on the two. The brick and motor store I am buying from has both tv's on a great Christmas sale price.

I saw a bunch of sets at Best Buy tonight including the two you have listed. I am about ready to pick up either the 40C630 of 46C630. I realize the sets in the store are all jacked up in their settings and not adjusted correctly however the 630 looked better to me from all of the other sets. I currently own a Panny 42PX80U which I have owned since 2008. I love it and have always been a huge fan of plasma. I am looking for an extra set to have at my Father's house. A set that will be easily moved in the future which is why I am looking small. Anyway....the only reason I am leaning toward lcd is due to the weight of the set. LCD is lighter than plasma by about 10 pounds or more depending on the size of the set you are looking to buy. The Sammy you are looking at has more inputs then the Panny. One more HDMI...has an audio out which the Panny does not have where you can connect headphones or a small speaker system with their mini-plug. The headphones or the speaker system will need to have their own volume control since this is not actually a headphone jack. The televisions remote does not control the volume through this connection. One other thing I like about the Sammy is the screen. Not a glass look but not matte either....almost like a combination of the two. Very nice looking set. So...I am looking at possibly buying my first LCD. Take a look at the reviews on Amazon and Best Buy. The average review for this set is very high out of five stars. The person who just might prefer plasma will get this set and love it IMO..... After looking at it tonight at Best Buy, I know I would and as I said before I am a huge fan of plasma.

ok. So it does seem the sammy is the way to go.

Just surprised that from the Panasonic S2 to the G25 that there is such a quality bump. I was hoping the S2 would have been a better performer.

The G25 panel is a big upgrade....IMO...over the S2. I do not really care about internet capabilities so that is not a consideration for me when looking at the two. Anyhow...as far as LCD goes, I am really impressed with the Samsung 630 series between what I have read in the way of reviews thru Best Buy and Amazon along with actually seeing the television in person. A home theater really does not need anything more than what all the major players are offering in the way of big screen lcd and plasma minus the 3D nonsense. Up to this point, I have been one to criticize this new 3D craze going on in the industry. I thought maybe it is just me and that I needed to give it one more chance which I did last night. I am now convinced 3D is not the way to go...is a total waste of the extra hundreds of dollars people are spending on this crap. Where are you looking and what price are you paying? You said a local store had a sale for this set. Best Buy has had these sets for $200.00 off for the last couple of weeks. Would like another $100.00 off before I bite but may go ahead and pick it up. Still trying to decide between the 40 and the 46 inch set.

BTW....Amazon.com has the 42G25 for $839 and 24 months financing thru the Amazon.com store card. It does not say 24 months on the product page however once you place it in your cart the message indicates the 24 months financing. Plus..if you look at the Amazon.com store card page and looking under the link for items available for financing it gives you a whole list under the HDTV section.
