I have a feeling a magic marker wouldn't adhere to the chrome, I'd be hesitant to try. The black is pretty shiny too so it may look "off" if you didn't match the shininess. Again it was kind of dark in the room so I couldn't hardly tell the black vs chrome, almost like the black was more of a reflection.

I was always a Sony person and like the look of their sets, but I'm a PIP/twin view addict and Samsung seems to be the only set that still has it.

I picked up the new 46" D6000 model from Best Buy last night. It is replacing an LG 47" LE5400 set I had bought last week. The LG had lackluster black levels and small amount of clouding in multiple areas of the screen.

The D6000 has an H302 panel on it. I haven't done any calibration on the set yet, I use the disney WOW disc, but so far, black levels are much better and I have no clouding. There is some very, very slight flashlighting at the corners, but it's not very distracting, and may calibrate out once the brightness and backlight settings are set correctly. I'm wondering if the calibration settings people have posted in the C6300 thread would translate over this set.

I can tell you that gaming on this set is a painful experience unless you enable "game mode" though, which in turn hurts the PQ. I'm probably just going to have to learn to deal with ths lesser PQ though.

Cool. Can you please do some pics?
As far as I know the D6000 doesn't have such a thin bezel as the D6400. Did anyone already see a D6400?

I'll try and post some pics this evening. And yes, the bezel on the D6000 is the slightly wider bezel, not the super thin one that's on the higher end D6000 sets.

stellar 2D performance in HD, much-improved 3D pictures and science-defying contrast performance. It even sounds quite good, for heaven's sake... - from the review of the UE55D8000 (UK/EU model). Negatives are few: there are some very occasional colour tone concerns and some of the picture presets are ill-judged, still a bit of crosstalk noise over 3D images, but this isn't severe enough to stop the 55D8000 from being an absolutely terrific TV for what, in the circumstances, isn't an unreasonable amount of money.

WTF? Did they even look at the TV? The user menu contains all the controls for a full ISF calibration including 10 point grayscale/gamma and 3D (as in saturation, hue, & luminance) Color Management System.

I am looking to get a 65D8000. But like last year, I suspect they may be the last to arrive.

Of the new 46D8000, is it still made in Mexico?

Before I commit to buying one of these new TVs, can someone let me know if they will work well with an HTPC? I don't subscribe to cable anymore, and view everything through my HTPC (XBMC interface), so that is the only use this TV will get. My roommate has an older (2 year old) Samsung LCD, and it works well, but I did have to enable 'Game Mode' on it. I assume these new TVs (looking at D7000, D7900, or D8000) will function just as easily with an HTPC, or will I run into problems where quality may suffer?

WTF? Did they even look at the TV? The user menu contains all the controls for a full ISF calibration including 10 point grayscale/gamma and 3D (as in saturation, hue, & luminance) Color Management System.

They mention there are buckets of controls but also:
There are a couple of other much more minor issues to report. First, colours occasionally contain either a touch too much red or yellow and second, when the picture contains an expanse of a single colour, the central portion of the picture occasionally looks a shade deeper than the edges, but this is preferable to the more overt inconsistency found on most edge LED sets

Probably they think about controls to correct those color issues which may be peculiar to the D series (welcome new artefacts). It is likely that slight but noticeable difference between the edges and center when single color is displayed is due to the side edge backlight which is making more difficult to achieve perfect horizontal uniformity. Color variations may be result of the microdimming processing. But all this could also be a result of not using the full arsenal of calibration settings.

Good question, i would like to know that as well for the 55D8000..don't want to pay any duty cross border shopping lol.

When someone see the box for either of these, can you please let us know the answer

Buying the 55D8000 this summer (or sooner!!) so hopefully the prices drop a little from now till then..don't want to pay taxes either so i may just buy from one of our forum sponsors and have it shipped somewhere in the USA.

Wonder when Best Buy will get these in and if they will have any promos on it?

Still looking for the perfect TV...

I'm doing the cross-border shopping too, so please do let us know where they're made. You still have to pay taxes though, right (HST)?

This is making me want to wait for the 65" D8000 vs. the 64" D7000 plasma available much sooner. I can't stand my 56" 720p DLP anymore, and Tron Legacy in 3D is out soon. What a quandary...

Cnet UK isn't as critical as cnet US, they always give higher reviews for their TV reviews. Cnet US is much more detailed and critical of their reviews, they are harder to impress. I look forward to cnet US review of the d8000.
