I am feeling better seeing those Dark Knight shots - that looks excellent. Mine is in the same city but the shipping company has not extracted their heads from wherever they keep them, so I still have no idea when I will get my 46". I also have some pretty amateur eyes too and I won't have time to try any serious calibration until later this month when work gives me a break. But I will post some images and some impressions once I get it up and running.

yeh but those are all day shots.

he also took three night shots, and this is one of them:

not sure what to take from this...
perhaps he can give us an explanation.

tested this about a week ago and noticed no flickering. interesting you had the depth setting at -2. you sure this was the HX929 not the HX909?

Just finished uploading the night pics. See some of you already seen them and have spotted some blooming/clouding but I had to set a much longer exposure to capture it (1/4 sec). I would say 1/6 is closest to what my eyes see.

Note the last three pics are even longer exposure so shows how damn good this screen is.

This is all fantastic, I can certainly live with the tiny amount of flashlighting shown in these shots, what was with the other members shots, he must have either been trolling or have a very defective TV. can't wait for these to hit the UK now. thanks again kingkitega

Not everybody can afford a Canon 1.4 lens - he probably used some cheap point and shoot camera - handheld

Not sure how much more I can add to the Digital Versus closeup. Will dig up an old camera to take a macro shot in any case. Will try post it tomorrow.

I saw clouding on a 929 in a fully lit BB Magnolia. These sets do have clouding issues, just because it does not show up in every photo does not make it not true. The black bars are also blue like last years 909 series.

True, however the blue black bars do not go away with the settings, they are the same as last years 909.

To much money for what it is, I like last years 52 909 series at a discount price better. Also the black bars had a blue tint, expect the same review as last year from CNET. To be fair I did not have a remote and could not even see what mode the backlight was on.

BB sets all their TVs to torch mode. Unless you disabled this and calibrated the TV, your opinions sadly mean nothing. No offense meant. I have not found a single edge lit TV that even looked decent on stock settings.

1) Blue black bars are probably more blue because the TV is in torch mode and has it's color cranked way up.
2) As I said above, BB sets all their TVs to demo mode and torch settings. All edgelit TVs will look like absolute trash on these settings.

Your results mean nothing unless you give us settings, which BB will most likely not allow you to adjust because it's in demo mode.

Yes, there is no settings that fix the blue black bars issue. This was something CNET mentioned with the 909 review, never bothered me. I do not believe the 909 had clouding this bad. Even when I did not see clouding this set did not impress, looked a lot like last years set, very little new and IR glasses instead of Bluetooth, not impressed for the asking price.

we're not talking about you. look at post # 765.

not sure why you posted those 909 pics here without mentioning its the 909. most likely confused a few people.

How do you know that you can't fix it with the settings if you didn't had the remote and couldn't even try it?

Torch mode will kill almost all detail on an edgelit set. Go back and ask for the remote, set it to Cinema. If they don't allow you (probably going to be the case) then tell them "You expect me to spend 4 grand on a TV that I can't even adjust before hand?" and they most likely will give you a remote then. Until you do that, your clouding issues mean nothing. Any edgelit TV is going to cloud really bad when they are in torch mode. I wouldn't be surprised if BB also disabled local dimming, as they did on the D8000 in my local store.

If you are able to see clouding in a brightly lit BB room, and there are people here taking shots in dark rooms, with high exposure cameras with very little to no clouding to be seen, then either that set is greatly faulty or BB has the TV set to some very wrong settings. I'm 99.9% sure it will be the latter if your local BB is anything like my local BB.

I too saw clouding on this model at Magnolia. I also saw that the sides were a bit brighter than the center and some banding when some grayish menu screens were displayed. I didn't get to play with settings much, but we did take it out of vivid mode and turned the backlight down to around 4 as I was there when they were first hanging it and powering it on for the first time. After theses minor setting changes, these things were still visible.

I dont' know if some more setting tweaks will make these issues less visible , but I hope so. I want to go back and play with it some more and to determine if the banding I saw would be something that would seen over regular content. I can be quite sensetive to things like banding and DSE, so what I might view as a problem other's might not notice at all.

Can someone with the set please do a quick test for me?

Put an HDMI cable into HDMI1/DVI. Press source on the remote and label the source as "PC". Then go into your menu system and 90% of your settings should be grayed out (because it's in PC mode). Can someone tell me if local dimming is disabled in this mode?

Thanks.

Hey Kingkitega, I just noticed that there is not XBR logo in the top right of your set.

Is that actually a 929?
