Are you joshing? For one, the Samsung has the highest input lag. But cheaper indeed.

A man with a plan... thanks for informing us and freeing up another 929 for someone.

Can a 929 owner tell me if they experience the following scenario:
Your show ends & it goes to white text credits. The TV seems to realize there is a large portion of black, so it adjusts the brightness of the entire screen including the text. The center text becomes noticeably dimmer, just like the TV is messing with the back-light.
I experience this on a UN46D8000. I am willing to buy a different TV that doesn't exhibit this distraction.

No, the HX929 free from dimmer , because of the Local dimming.
I Notice that D8000 dim the picture so the text became dimmer.
For your consideration Samsung 3d technology is better, because there is no
ghosting if you tilt your head, but overall picture goes to Sony.

Thank you rachmat-d. I'm going to return my D8000 for a HX929. I really like the D8000, but this brightness fluctuation is very annoying to me. I view only 2D content, so 3D quality isn't an issue for me.

How are the new bdr 250 3d glasses? Lighter? Comfortable to wear for 3-5 hours?

Anyone wanna share their picture settings for this baby :-) Normally I use cnet picture settings but they have not reviewed it yet. I'm basically using Standard with warm2 pic setting for Cable, Cinema Default for Blu Ray Movies. Have not watch any 3D yet (but will soon) and not much of a gamer but do own a PS3 and 360 and occasionally play a game here and there.

Thanks Rachmat-d -- I have been looking for some suggestions for settings too - I have been so busy that I just got the time to get everything set up in my new media cabinet yesterday afternoon. I believe that Nick posted his settings a while back too, so now we have a couple of suggestions for places to start. If I remember correctly the backlight is set at something like 7 by default, which seems way too high to me.

It's 7 in Custom by default but I let the ambient light sensor do it's thing because it's very good on this set. So far it's delivered the perfect backlight setting given the room conditions.

For me, I'm using Cinema 1 original factory setting with the following changes:

Backlight 3
Brightness 28 (based on AVC HD 709 calibration disc, original 50 was way too high..).
Colour Temp Warm 2
Noise/MPEG Reduction, both low
Motionflow Clear
Cinema Drive Auto 1 <-- anyone know what does this do?

I also find the HX909 thread a good start for settings

If passive is important then hold off until you can get a look at the LG, that 9500 will probably be a very nice display and very close in performance to the 929 to the point if you prefer passive you may like it more.

Looking for good sound, works with the hx929.
Want to mount above the tv.
Like some good input. Looking spend 500 or less.

Agree been trolling around there looking and reading. But sometimes to much info is a bad thing. Think thats were i am. Want great match to the hx929. Have came close 3 times to buying the ht-ct550w. Just so setup would be easy. But not sure yet about it's sound.

Excellent! In my opinion they are way better than last year's version. I have both. The new glasses do not have tilting head issues as described by another poster. I also notice no crosstalk to ghosting.

My local BB/Magnolia store just put a 55HX929 on display. It's the 1st 929 on display in my area.

I test drove the display for a few things.

1st 3D... the 3D performance is much better than the ex723 I just bought. Watching Despicable Me, I saw little or no ghosting where it was present on the ex723. I used my own Sony 100 glasses just to make sure it wasn't the glasses. MotionFlow worked smoother on the 929, while the ex723 had a very subtle 3:2 type cadence. Basically, the 929 has excellent 3D performance from what I could tell.

The 929 has a number of extra image processing features, such as the "reality" section, which basically seems like an intelligent detail enhancer. Then there is Gradation Smoothing, which might offer dithering to help reduce any gradient banding.

While I was forced to view the 929 in a relatively bright environment, the image quality over the ex723 was apparent and the ex723 is no slouch.

Clear and Clear Plus did not lower the screen brightness as much as with the ex723.

The only down side from my brief viewing was Motion Flow. Watching Avatar 2D from Blu-Ray, there were a very slightly, but noticeable edge artifacts around some moving objects. I tried turning off all other image processes just incase there was an additive processing hit from trying to handle everything. Nothing eliminated the artifacts. Every once in awhile the artifacts were more dramatic, such as around the whipping tail of a flying Banshee. When I got home I watched Avatar 2D again on the ex720 and it was perfectly clean as far as artifacts in both smooth and standard Motion Flow. So, it would appear the 960hz Motion Flow on the 929 might be allowing a few artifacts in order to create more frames. I would love to hear about other observations on this.

Best Buy only had the 55hx929, but another Sony dealer in my area has a 46hx929 in stock for less than Crutchfield.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

bp, can you let me know which Sharps do the 30MS? Which TV is the best for gaming? I'm okay with getting a TV with worse quality, but better gaming. Just want to see my options. Thanks.

Does anyone know where the mounting holes are on the back of the 55 HX929?

I can't find a picture of the back of the TV to see.

Are the mounting holes located exactly in the center of the TV?
Are the mounting holes located closer to the top or bottom edges of the TV?
Are the mounting holes are they perfectly centered between the top and bottom edges of the TV?

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco
