The very same issue: lighter sides along the edges. It's not flashlighting, because my set is relatively free from clouding or flashlighting, even with local dimming off.

My current one still gets a tinge in the corners if I sit on the opposite corner, but nowhere near the extent you are seeing where it is visible head-on.

The rep you got was definitely confusing flashlighting (edge-lit) symptoms with your real ones. An E-mail rep can be shown the issue by attaching the photos (showing in real content like with the game is a MUST, IMO), which makes it easier to explain what you are having problems with as well.

So I take it you don't see these same issues?

I am convinced you are right about the rep thinking it's a flashlighting issue, which funnily enough, I don't seem to have, even with local dimming disabled.

I will give them a call back as soon as you guys confirm this is NOT an unavoidable issue.

Thanks.

Even with the price increase, its still worth it. I paid 6k for a 64" Pioneer Elite in 2001 and it was still 2k off retail. So in the end one is getting what he's paying for. I''m just glad my timing was great.

Unfortunately we are all constantly searching best prices and now that appears to be coming to an end. I secured an excellent price on my 46" nearly 800+$'s below listing.
and was fortunate enough to get a excellent trouble free panel.

Rizz, we know it's coming, but we don't know for how long it will remain.

Anyone remembers Saturn? That was GM's cars that were to be sold at MSRP...no discounts! They didn't last.

Same thing happened around these parts of Texas with big, beautiful stores called Home Theatre that sold quality stuff at MSRP. Only twice a year they had sales at lower than msrp...it didn't last.

My prediction, this will not last either. It's too ingrained into American shoppers to purchase from competitive companies.

That will have no affect on the fixed pricing.

First price fixing on the Saturn a true POS they had to drop prices to try to get a foothold especially against Toyota and Honda as they basically cornered the compact market.

As far as not lasting I can't see them backing of off it for at least for a few years. And regardless of being ingrained the truth of the matter is if you want a particular model your going to pay for it!

Sony called me today. I had sent them pics of the banding, they are sending me a brand new replacement. The guy said something about a bad part and they don't have any replacement parts yet so they are sending a new TV.

Yeh, pretty effortless....I will say though, even though a 5000 dollar TV should not have these bands, I'd still keep the TV....lol...it's that good...I love it!

Hopefully this problem is all squared away and the replacement is lookin good!

Should probably amend "competitive" as "price competitive", IMO. There's more than one way to be competitive in a market place without losing your shirt.

I agree that US shoppers are very price sensitive. Price being the single largest factor in purchase decisions for most folk.

However, I am not entirely certain that Sony will completely fail here. They certainly could, but they aren't setting MSPs on their low-end and mid-range sets. The flagship set is already a different beast entirely. Now, will they sell more sets now that they have set a MSP, than they did before? I very much doubt it. I think Sony's beancounters realize that as well. Will they lose fewer sales, in the long term, than they would without this change? That remains to be seen. Will the American market even tolerate flagship TVs anymore? That also remains to be seen.

I have a Samsung pn59d7000 and I hate it. Its incredibly dim and i am in a very brightly lit room.

I'm looking for a display that is very bright and virbrent. I heard that the bravia hx929 was a pretty bright display but its hard to tell from the photos and videos I have seen. How bright can this display go and how vivid are the colors?

Super bright and super vivid....I too have a 65 929 that is facing a sliding glass door that is on the south side of the house. The image is able to overcome the reflections that are on the screen. I'm using the out of the box Cinema Scene setting (Ambient Sensor is ON). I am auditing all of the scene setting before I make any changes. The out of the box scene General, was TOO bright from late afternoon on into the night. BTW, my audit reveals that the Cinema Scene is very close to IMRizzo's setting (maybe Sony has been looking over his shoulder )

Wait a minute, do you mean that if Sony streeted a 60" Crystal OLED by the end of the year .....you wouldn't be interested ?

I'm ready.

I certainly would, but even in this thread we see folks who shirk away at the new prices. And these folks are the ones most likely to buy a flagship product. Will it be enough to keep selling flagships at that pricing? No idea.

I do know that I'd never drop whatever a Crystal LED set costs without seeing it in person first. Too untested, too expensive to not. I don't buy any TV sight unseen because I don't buy cheap, and I don't buy underperformers.

Not the way I purchase things...I have missed many cars I would've purchased because they were either charging over msrp or at msrp. Same with just about almost everything I purchase. I'll agree, there are those that will pay at or above msrp for whatever they want, whenever they want. I feel they are in a minority, not enough of them to make a difference and keep the TV manufacturers afloat.

The American market will bear the tariff of high prices for 'top Shelf' they may bitch and cry. But if ya really want it, your gonna break out the card and go for it $$$

Yeah, this all but rules out the 929 for me. While I knew the price hike was coming, I didn't want to order yet because I am looking at the Vt50 also. I wanted to compare the two, but now the 929 is a grand higher than the vt50 will hit the market for, I can't see going for the 929. We'll see what happens in the next month or two price wise.

How did you contact Sony support the first time? Did you call them or email them through the Sony web site?

Hey wsx....I just used the number that is in the support area when you press the home button on the remote...It also has info there that they will need like serial number..etc...

Talked to the guy on the phone and told him my issues, then they called me and asked me to send pics of the banding to an email address...Then they called back and said due to the pics and not having parts for repair they would be sending a brand new unit, not refurb since I just bought it and it's within 30 days.

Metallica (all time fav band by the way)..they didn't ask you to deal with your retailer? I don't see any problems but afraid to put I my wow disk and look at uniformity. If I did have probs I wouldn't want to get another November build from bb..rather get straight from Sony

Hey dedicated....Metallica rocks!......Hopin the new album this year will be good...but who knows these days...haha

No they just asked where I purchased, told them best buy and the guy said that a shipping company will be contacting me for delivery of the new TV. He said they will have me plug in the new one and check it out before they take the current set. I had a Jan build on my 65...Hopefully the new set will be perfect. It's the best TV I've ever seen!

Me also - not going to buy it now. My nearest Best Buy had the 55HX929 for $2499 (now $3499) and Amazon vendors were as low as $2200 at times.
